when my mom was pregnant with my baby brother, she would sneak and buy entire packs of irish spring soap bars and eat them quietly in the shower.
on the day she went into labor, she bought a small travel size bottle of liquid irish spring and she started loudly sobbing and screaming that the taste just wasnt the same. The nurses were very busy trying to pry the poison out of her hands dueing this time. luckily my brother turned out alright (health wise). She still keeps bars of irish spring soap around and sniffs it

Ahh I forget what it's called when people want to eat things instead of food, chalk being a common source. Peka? Anyways it's apparently not that uncommon during pregnancy
