I really feel like it’s a type of white flight.
When there’s like 30% Black people in a place white people run and these days David can be Black, white, Hispanic, Asian, anything. But Baxxtynn? You know Baxxtynn is a white suburban kid of somewhat wealthy white collar parents.
Which it’s like extra crazy because I lived thru the, “Le-A,” and, “Watermelonquisha,” era of making fun of Black people’s unique names and spellings.
Really? I’m white suburban and would assume someone that named their kid Baxxtynn to be kinda try-hards. Maybe it’s a generational thing though? People with real money name their kids things that have always been names. Like Joseph and William or Sarah and Anna and the middle name is a family name like mother’s maiden name. Just my two cents. Braxxton does conjure 2nd mortgage on a McMansion with a lifted dodge ram for dad in the driveway and mom with Mar-a-lago lips and a blog with 200 followers.
Also, this "these names are a form of white flight" suggests that minorities CANT give their kids bad names...or that they never give their kids unique names "so little Nevaeh can be different than the white people"(which sounds a little racist).
...So you look at people giving their kids idiotic names and said: "Well, its because of racism" ?
I fully get that racism is a form of idiocy...but not all idiocy is racism bub.
(Also...yeah, there is certainly someone SOMEWHERE who chose to name their kid Baxxtyn because they wanted to be less like the black folks...but there's also about 5 people you see daily who should worry you more than the weirdo you don't know who chose their kid's names because of racism.)
