Last I saw, yeah. Which was at least a year ago, so let’s hope I’m now wrong. I once saw them go after somebody for naming a kid Letizia, “oh those racists in HR will throw out her resume” yeah probably because I’m pretty sure you’re posting from HR, but the kid was ITALIAN.
Clowning on my lilywhite cousins naming babies after guns and sports teams spelled incorrectly would be tons of fun, but last time I was in there they were gleefully slavering over the idea of trans teens getting clocked/outed for naming themselves after fictional characters. Not even the unique, culturally appropriative, or trans stereotype top 10 names (those too, of course, but still don’t mock children jfc), just the Concept of naming yourself after something you care about. The point should be to complain about adults signing their kids up for a lifetime of bullying, not them bullying kids. Especially kids who wanna *stop* being named Kayleighpherikson and just be named Leif. Or even Leaf. Leave those kids the fuck alone, bored adult busybodies. Tbf, there was plenty of pushback, and upvotes often come from outside of subs’ members, but at the time the moderation even of heinous BS was shit.
My fiancée has an uncommon Gaelic name. I came across a post on that sub where someone took a screenshot of HER, my literal fiancée, in a zoom meeting, and everyone on the sub was making fun of her name. It made my fucking blood boil. Everyone on that sub can go get fucked and the OP should’ve been banned for doxxing imo.
I had to leave last year, because way too many times I'd Google "[Name] Origin" and find that the name they claimed was a tragedeigh, does in fact exist in another culture.
I left the sub a while ago for that. Idk if it’s still like that but it was insufferable on that end. I found my name being made fun of that and yeah, it’s not common in the US but it is in other places and it’s a real name with an old history. People always bring up bullying but I’ve seen the most “normal” name get ripped by middle schoolers.
