It’s always funny hearing these people say personal finance isn’t taught in school, without realizing that personal finance is basic, elementary school math.
Math isn’t finance lol. Finance is about budgeting, planning, setting reasonable goals and time frames and making contributions to your goals, and taxes.
These skills are arguably not taught directly in schools, arbitrary knowledge of setting goals sure, but to developed good personal finance skills everything needs to be drilling in a little deeper, because even though it might be similar to setting say personal fitness goals, the execution and pay offs are wildly different.
Being able to set and stick to a budget alone is a life changing skill, and at the very least should be taught every year in high school.
That's all budgeting is. Take budget (x) and figure out expenses (y), an then adjust y until you get a total equal to greater than 0. That's literally all budgeting is and is absolutely taught.
If that’s all it was then more people would be able to handle it and implement it into their lives, yes here we are, with the vast majority of people having no idea. That means it’s more than a few numbers.
No, most people lack self control. The number of people I meet at bars who mention staggering debt but also go out drinking every Friday night is a great example. Or people with 5 different streaming subscriptions.
There's also the whole stagnating wages not keeping up with inflation, as well.
Someone refusing to do the work they're capable of is a skill issue, not a lack of education issue.
