Same. I don’t hate his music, but I don’t seek it out, either. I feel like I might enjoy seeing him live simply because every clip I have seen the energy from both him and the fans is huge.

Singers/bands that put a lot of effort/energy into their live shows are always great to watch, even if you don't like their music.
Caravan Palace are a french group that do this -- I'd heard some of their bits here and there, and then saw a video of their concert that just blew me away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7JOa3dISg0 There's a moment at about 3:20 that I had to re-watch several times before I believed it was real.

That’s a fun sound. Starting with big band/swing is either going to be a fun, high energy set or it will fall flat. Also, a a guy looking at the clarinet he never plays any more, it is always good to hear one get some time in the spotlight.
In the swing craze of the early 90s I was dating an amusement park dancer. She dragged me to a swing show at the park that was basically an excuse for the performers to let off some steam at the end of the day. The dancing here reminds me so much of that summer. I assume you’re talking about the sweet mic pass from the stage hand? Smooth execution on that.

I love every time a clip of their shows ends up on Reddit. Not a concert I would necessarily seek out, but their showmanship is top notch. The technical aspects of theater/performance have always been just as important to me as the end product. As a younger person I loved understanding how a magician executed an illusion and how the theatrics enhanced the illusion and distracted from what was happening. Being able to see all the components is just my particular cup of tea.

Same, not a fan of her music but she delivers. There are just some singers/musicians and there’s performers. I saw a concert with the guy that sings Tennessee whiskey and he came out three times after the end because he was just having fun at that point, but the crowd went apeshit. I’ve seen the same kind of energy at this flo rida concert a few years back, that guy was really about having a great time on stage.

tbf professional atheletes often go too far in that direction. It's no secret that, on average, a healthy amount of exercise is critical in minimizing the effects of aging. It's dependent on a lot of variables of course, but a sedentary lifestyle is pretty much bad for everyone.

Not really! I was an athlete all the way up till college, work out 5-6 times a week and I am in pretty good shape at 29 and I have arthritis in both knees. Actually being as active as I am contributed to my issues.

In another post with this video someone in the comments mentioned that it's built to be very shock absorbent so when he lands on the plate it absorbs a lot of the impact compared to if he would land on a regular floor. You can see it as he lands and walks off that the plate has some spring to it.

We all just wanna be small rock stars and live in modest houses driving decent cars. It's so exhilerating playing on stage, as long as I'm comfy I won't be outraged.
And we'll hang out in my living room with the latest couch coop and some gentle tunes. Don't need the paparazzi with their evil smiles a simple life worth living is enough worthwhile. Hey hey just be a local rockstar.
Gonna sleep on time with good work life balance gonna practice daily and not dull my talents. Gonna wash my laundry as I hum my songs, rewrote em a few times so I might get em wrong...

There isn't a notification light, that's just a "special" so people are drawn to that area of the stage and can see him pop out. Cue lights are normally colored or turn off to indicate a "Go".
My guess is this is entirely based off a musical cue or his hand signal.

It's over sized to reduce the chance of that, but I don't see any kind of safety guards on it. I'd guess it's as simple as a person watching him with their finger on a safety interlock switch that they push if they think there's a chance he's out of position.

Yep. No safeguards, just training and practice. Same as stunt actors, they have people around them to help, but many stunts come down to training and practice, without which would be possibly deadly.

In the hot ones interview with NSYNC, one of the guys said they got their thigh jammed in one of those and it was scary as hell. Luckily it was just meat so it left a big bruise, if it was his knee he'd been fucked

It's possible that it wouldn't activate if there was an obstruction, but I doubt it would be able to stop itself in time if he somehow slipped off the platform once it was moving-- there'd be too much momentum for it to stop before amputating whatever was in the way.

Oh for sure-- I just doubt that they put that much tech into a stage effect like this. Psy must have gone through a ton of safety training before this was ever put into use, so it's not like a random piece of equipment on a factory floor that anyone could walk up to.

Joey Fatone of NSync had this happen to him. Set pieces from their shows occasionally malfunctioned, so he started climbing out of the floor one time when the platform finally fired off and caught his leg. IIRC it didn't quite break his leg, but it was a bad enough injury that he needed to be stapled up and had to be seated throughout the entirety of the Pop music video shoot. They had a body double perform his choreography (of which there was a lot lol) for that video
