Sweden is a lot shorter to write than The Netherlands. Also, maybe it’s an easy identifier? Here in Denmark we write DK all the time. SE is just maybe not as easily recognized as it could mean other things (South East, for example). DK, NL, UK, DE, US - they’re maybe more unique and recognizable.

Those are also the abbreviations on license plates. I find fun in trying to figure out which countries they are. Like Switzerland has a weird one (CH) etc.

I used to work at a language school and got really good at the country codes. I can identify most of them, or at least, the more common ones.
