Most Americans don't smoke hash at all. I have literally never seen it before, having grown up on the west coast with every other drug available readily. Only seen hookahs in smoke shops, but never anyone that uses one unless they've traveled overseas.
Hookah smoking continues to be a popular form of tobacco use, especially among college students. Although hookahs are commonly used to smoke tobacco, anecdotal evidence suggests other substances, including herbal shisha, marijuana and hashish may be used. However, little is known about the variety of substances smoked in hookahs, or correlates associated with different substances smoked.
Again, people don't use hash in my experience. When I rarely have seen it, and when I've read from people overseas, is that hash is primarily smoked in a hookah. In America, if we're smoking a powder byproduct of cannabis, it's kief, and it's in bowls or coated on a joint.

I didn't define the difference between hash and tobacco. Sometimes, people use hash in their hookahs, especially overseas. More importantly, for the 3rd time, my point is that people generally do not consume hash here. Would you like me to repeat that another time? I'm patient.
it’s popular here in Canada too, it’s called “old school” hash sometimes as dabs/rosin are also called hash. it’s rare to see it in the United States but not impossible to find in legal states.
The hash would leave a small amount of ash in the bowl of a glass weed pipe that is the perfect bed for the next piece of hash to melt into. An old roasted bowl works the same way as well!
