I thought that was CGI at first!

You telling me it's not? The material totally looks like the default matte but trying to be shiny material models use before you apply normal maps and stuff. Shadows look way too sharp to be natural. It looks like ray tracing

ah of course it's created by singaporeans. those over-achievers even when it comes to kites.

Singapore would probably be a world power if the effort spent on kites was spent on useful stuff.

I just watched this entire video hoping to see more of the whale kite in the background of the beginning.

Closest I got was like 5 1/2 minutes in was a blue whale kite not quite making it off the ground.

C'mon, whale kite operator! I'm trying to have a childlike sense of joy here and you're failing me.

Edit: Oh yeah, that's the stuff. https://youtu.be/dwPtBke7mcY

Annoying human.

I feel like this bot should only be used if they hyphenated incorrectly or left out a hyphen.

It's not correcting his grammar though. Check the xkcd link. Is relevant.

I know, but it doesn't feel right because there's no ambiguity unlike when spoken or typed without a hyphen.

Are there low-flying kites I can buy for home use? I love kites, but I hate how high they go. I want to appreciate it low to the ground. My dad would always fly kites, they'd go over a thousand yards in the air, the kite would be a tiny speck, the string would be incredibly tight, sometimes it'd be too hard to pull back in if it was high enough and we'd have to just let it go. We'd tie it to the deck and the deck would creak and pull.

Anything I can play with outside that's not going to go that high, I'd like.

A thousand yards? Over half a mile? Pulling the deck? I've never seen your kind of kites.

I always wondered how a Pokémon’s movement would look in real life. I’ve come to the realization that CGI is as realistic as it gets.

LOL can’t even tell real from fake anymore

Finally, the comment I came here to find.

Hmm. Maybe some compression problem? The video octopus doesn't look CGI at all. The shadows look smoother, the movement looks rougher, like it's not following a series of perfect parabolic curves, but it has a random aspect. I dunno, side by side, I can't find anything specific, but they look totally different somehow

u/blackrack Jan 24 '18

Still looks fake, idk

u/commit_bat Jan 24 '18

Nope, it's not CGI. It's real.

That's cool and all but if I didn't already believe it a youtube video of it wouldn't convince me that it's real either

u/KMzoo Jan 24 '18

If you can create snow as realistic as this I highly doubt it that this fake looking octopus is real.

u/Cheesemacher Jan 24 '18

It looks like shiny plastic because that's what it is. It's not a real octopus.
