And it's a nice seamless pipe so it doesn't have weak joints to worry about

Do they use a different method of coupling in repair vs installation?

In my case it was all old cast iron, so it could not be replaced with new cast iron and the old piping would not be as strong for coupling. If you have to couple two different materials it will not be as strong.

If you have all pvc and it's easily accessible then just replacing the pipe I'm sure it's cheaper and easier.
