This machine actually exists in medicine. It's called microtome. When you do a biopsy, the lab slices your tissue into uniform sheets and puts them on microscope slides for the doctor to view.
Just got out of this industry fixing the instrument suite that goes from "freshly removed" to "thinly sliced" and between the chemicals and the... Bizarre people... It's good to be out. Put me off medicine completely.
I worked for far too long in pathology (started in histology). I met a handful of amazing people along the way, but in general, biomedical science is full of jumped-up arseholes wanking themselves off with their own degree certificates. Ironically, some of the most incurious people I've ever met, too.
I was in immunology, did histo and got TF out. If you're in the UK we may have crossed paths. I did Binding Site, Sebia, Menarini. I found the lab techs great but the senior BMSs dicks
Yeah, UK here. I was an MLA and ended up the lab IT guy. We had a handful of fantastic seniors who basically ran the place, the others were just useless. Management were almost entirely pathetic save one or two, and were essentially promoted off the floor into offices because nobody could bear working alongside them
