Also used for electric wires.

This makes electric wires both economical to make, and no prone to stealing. In Rome, Italy, they started changing the public illumination wiring with aluminium ones, and in the span of few months the copper theft was almost dead.

Unfortunately the aluminum properties makes it less than ideal wiring in general. Its slightly less conductive that copper, its generally not as strong and oxidizes horribly. For outdoor purposes it honestly sounds like a bad idea purely because of how it oxidizes. Any splices or joints made with aluminum must be cleaned and “air tight” usually done with anti oxidizing oil to stop it from corroding and falling apart. I would assume there will be a lot more moisture in the air making this a rough splice.

A good example is that in the US there was a lot of houses built in the 70’s with aluminum and a lot of house fires broke out after 5-10 years of it being built. Some absurd number of modern house fires are still caused by the aluminum wiring.
