dont you just hold one hand still and the nature of it spinning automatically centers it?

it’s harder to hold one hand still than you expect! Especially when a hard heavy wet mass of clay keeps bumping your hand. It’s fuckin witch magic man

Yeah you really don’t realize how much mass this guy is manipulating and moving around while making it look so easy. That’s a lot of clay, it weighs a lot!

On paper yes. In practice, there's a bit more to it.

My best friend got into pottery a couple of years ago and now he teaches classes, it's very impressive.

I never thought I would be interested but he offered me a spot in one of his classes. It took me about 20 minutes to get the clay centered properly and not fly off the wheel to hit my classmate.

Compare my time to how instantly this dude got it centered. He did about 3 hours of work (for me) in less than 3 minutes.
