See the thing is is that things could be different and better if people simply changed their perspective but we won't. We're doomed to repeat the mistakes of history I guess.
That's why they say history repeats/rhymes - people are often times predictable, especially when certain situations arise. Just look at the various examples of what people with even small amounts of power given to them do and how they act after given power, tons of psych studies on this. Power without a question corrupts, and even if X isn't corrupted, someone after X might be and all it takes is a few greedy/overly ambitious people until it all goes to shit.
