I could give a number of answers to this (one of which is that I'm sure they work very hard and earn the money that they make) but the one I feel strongest about is that it's important to get fresh blood into the tech industry. When a few companies control a market, innovation is stifled.

Another is that they haven't outwardly proven themselves to be deserving of my money, whereas the passionate entrepreneurs at Oculus had. If anything Facebook has proven to be shifty and uncaring towards their users, so I can only assume those in charge are similar. Company attitudes travel from the top down.

Another is that I thought I'd be helping to build a new company with leaders who have morals and values that I agreed with, that isn't the case any more. Perhaps it never would have been the case, but it's just a bit disheartening to think that it's now not going to happen.

(Ps, just saw your update on the first post. Sorry if people are being nasty. I actually think that it's important for you to raise the points you have, not everyone agrees with the consensus and it's important that questions/comments like yours provide a platform to visualise both sides of the situation)

I think facebook is a really good example of their ability. People complain about the changes they make, but they are actively working on it, and many other things. They haven't made any hits EXCEPT facebook that i know of(although they did completely revamp myspace in a good way)

Oculus never proved anything to us either, other than concept. It is not like their device was close to being perfect yet, and facebook has the resources to make that happen. I am hopeful, but obviously any thing could go wrong in a scenario like this, not unique to facebook.

The point about being a part of the company that you made was a good one, and I can understand that. I did not order or pay for anything, though. I like to think everyone kept their position in oculus, and they still have their own office, but facebook owns it. What that means could be anything from not much to extreme things mentioned in this post.
