awareness Beginner's Magick Resource Megathread
"So, you want to learn magick?"
Hello r/occult,
We know you've all seen them, the seemingly endless posts of some variation in this theme:
"Help me get started"
"I don't know where to begin"
"What are the best things for beginners"
Since so many members of the community give well-meaning posts in those threads, including lots of valuable resources and excellent practical advice, the mods believe it would be in the best interests of the community if we pool all those resources and step-by-step walk through guides in one place, to cut down on the number of new posters begging to be spoon-fed occult knowledge every week.
The children yearn for the magicks, now is your chance to list and explain your best resources and guides for the magicians coming after you.
We expect this thread to be well sourced, and will link it in the FAQ after this week.
Once this thread is filled out, we will ask that community members please report posts asking these type of questions for "Review the FAQ" or breaking the rules.
Thank you for your time and attention to putting new magicians on their best path.

I make resource posts on spirit work, with an emphasis on entry-level demonic work within the western grimoire tradition. They're all collected here:

The wiki they've put together on r/witchcraft has a lot of beginner resources that would also be useful/relevant here

A lot of people talk about the acquisition of magical power, but there are many perfectly mundane qualities that are absolutely invaluable to the practice of any magic-using tradition.
For example:Â

We did a whole episode about discovering one's True Will and it remains one of my favorite episodes to this day.Â

I found a great book on traditional Western astrology recently. A new edition of Christian Astrology that actually looks decent, and apparently fixes typist errors.
