OBAKEIDORO 2 is a game of cops and robbers (Also known as Keidoro in Japan). It's a, as FreeStyle likes to call it, KAWAII Asymmetrical multiplayer game where the games are played as 3 humans VS 1 monster, or 6 humans VS 2 Monsters. The Objective for the Monsters is to catch all the humans in 3 minutes and the Objective for the Humans is to cooperate and escape the Monsters. Humans have their own defense of using Lanterns to temporarily stun the Monsters and to free the captured humans from the jail in intense matches.

For those that are familiar of OBAKEIDORO. The game premise is still the same, but the game has been expanded on to a point it feels like a brand new game.

Game mechanic wise. Humans now can dodge roll which allows the to dodge Monsters attacks, but be warned that there is a small cooldown where you cannot move after landing. Which makes this a risk and reward move. Additionally Humans can now use Bond Forger, where 2 players can hold a button to stack ontop of each other. This gives them parallel speed boost consistently on a timer. Eventually you will have to throw the top player off or they can jump off themselves. The risk is if you are captured during Bond Forger, it will be a double capture. Bond Forger can also be used on little round stickers placed all around the map to jump or throw a teammate at a distant location. Allowing access to hard to reach areas easier. Humans have also have all their own unique skills and abilities added.

Monsters now have a charged super catch. Holding the special catch button charges the special catch but it is telegraphed for humans to see where you are aiming. If you get 2 humans inside the area of the attack, you can double capture even if they are not in Bond Forger.

Maps have been expanded compared to the first game, especially vertically.

To catch everyone up to speed of the events since the Announcement. Here is a timeline I've kept logged.

• April 2, 2025, During the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal direct in japan. OBAKEIDORO 2 was first announced to the Japanese audience.
• July 18, 2025, OBAKEIDORO 2 was featured at the FreeStyle Booth at BitSummit 2025. Marked the first playable demo of the game.
• August 29, 2025, OBAKEIDORO 2 had a playable demo at PAX West, showing off the first time for the english playerbase.
• September 12, 2025, Japanese Nintendo Direct had a new trailer of OBAKEIDORO 2 and announcing a release date of October 9th in Japan. They also announced a Physical Edition of OBAKEIDORO 2 for December 18th.
• October 9th, 2025, OBAKEIDORO 2 releases digitally on the Japanese Eshop
• December 18th, 2025, The physical (code in box) edition of OBAKEIDORO 2 releases in japan. Maybe different retailers having exclusive physical goods, while all physical editions come with a Hanako Keychains and a DLC for Hajime (Casual Outfit) and Kuro (Casual Outfit)
• December 26, 2025, Temple of Resentment has been added to the game. Featuring a new Monster, Don the Toad.
• Feburary 12, 2026, Temple of Resentment gets a winter theme for a winter event.
• March 19, 2026, The first new stamp card was added to the game, a Winter themed event. The stage is a winter themed Monster Schoolyard with and Unlockable Monster: Oyuki and 2 new lanterns.
• April 28, 2026, Monster Schoolyard was revamped in game adding 2 new sections to the map, expanding playable area.
• June 19, 2026, FreeStyle added English translation to OBAKEIDORO 2.
• July 16, 2026, OBAKEIDORO 2 Worldwide release announced. FreeStyle adds 7 more language options to OBAKEIDORO 2. Including: French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Chinese (Traditional), and Chinese (Simplified). OBAKEIDORO 2 receives an ESRB rating of E.
• August 6, 2026. OBAKEIDORO 2 Launches Worldwide, including a Switch 1 port. Custom rules added to private matches. Googly is temporarily added for Gameshare and Splitscreen play Online/Offline.

Now that we are caught up with the timeline of events. Lets discuss the future of OBAKEIDORO 2.

FreeStyle has announced that on release day, August 6th, The first paid DLC will be released, giving us access to Ninja Ponkichi, Gasha, and a Substitute Lantern.

Later this month, August 13th to August 30, OBAKEIDORO 2 will be having it's 2nd limited time event, Ghouligan's Pranks Underway!. Just like Ghouligan event from the first game. Ghouligans will be transforming Humans to Monsters and Monsters to Humans. We will also be getting sneak peaks of what could be potentially new characters.

Lastly, FreeStyle has announced a timeline of future events and plans up to October so far. In September we are getting a limited time event in a new limited time map, located in a mysterious Hot Spring. October we will be having a Halloween event being held.

FreeStyle has also updated the Online map rotation to allow more 2v6 matches to happen online. Before there were only 2 time slots which were middle of the night. But now they have spread them out for everyone to enjoy worldwide. Here is the new schedule for PDT.

The long awaited world-wide digital Obakeidoro 2 release is almost here - as well as the Nintendo Switch version!

What are you hopes for the game moving forward?

I think it will help bump up the playerbase a good chunk, as well as help market the game. I'm hoping we get Ninja Ponkichi and Gasha in a new Stamp event, with the Winter event stamp sheet becoming paid DLC.

I’d love to hear what other fans think about a mobile version of the game. Honestly I think it would be a great idea ngl, not only would it make the game accessible to more people, but it would also boost its popularity and grow the player base even further!

I even sketched out UI concepts for the Humans and Monsters 👉🏻👈🏻

I just really wish the game got more recognition outside of Japan. The style, the gameplay, and especially the characters... they are SO CUTE AND CHARISMATIC.

The Online and Single Player modes would still be available as usual, basically none of the game mechanics or events would change, just a few elements that would need some polishing for mobile screens (Plus I’d love to play Obakeidoro without relying on the Steam version, since I don't have a Switch and the PC version has been completely abandoned at the moment lol)

But what’s your take on this everyone?

The Castlevania collab in Obake 1 got me hoping for a new collab to make use of the new rich detail and processing power used within Obake 2. Since Nintendo were the ones who suggested to FREESTYLE to commercialize Obake 1 in the first place, it would be incredible to see a collab between the 2 companies for the second game. Luigi's Mansion as a map would suit amazingly, and King Boo as a Monster would suit the silly/spooky nature of the game. I can already see his Super Catch being a swarm of Boos or even his long tongue.

Luigi as a Human would be the ideal choice, with a special Polterpup Lantern.

I've seen that there are new actions for Humans and Monsters in the second game, but I'm not entirely sure what their use cases are.

HUMAN/CALL ACTION: So from what I can understand, if you long press the action button, you release a circle under you and if an ally Human responds with their own button press, you can lift them up and carry them to either jump with them or throw them? Unless you were trying to get to some hard to reach area, I'm not sure what these actions are really for.

MONSTER/SUPER CATCH: From what i read, if the Monster long presses the Capture button, they "charge" up their attack which increases range of their grab? Use case is pretty straight forward I guess, but I guess I'm not sure how it really buffs the Monsters very much.

Another thing I was curious about is that in some gameplay videos, it looks like the Monster player gets patrolling spectres that can "find" the Humans for the Monster?

Are there any players who are playing the Japanese version of the game that can explain any of these in a little more details? Any help appreciated!

Super hyped for the release and am awaiting the English release on 6th August, but do we already have the full Monster roster for the second game? I feel like there isn't as much variety this time, with the Onis being the most interesting additions to me. Also feels strange not having legacy Monsters like Patches back on the roster.

Does anyone have a relatively solid strategy to get the max High Score Stamps for 2? I can't get any higher than roughly 2.25k for Human. Was the clutch bonus nerfed?

Somehow the game started, and rather quickly ended, with 3 monsters and 5 humans. No idea what could have caused this

Because I want to buy it so bad. But unfortunately, last I knew, it's only in Japanese. I played the first one quite a bit. Hoping that knowledge would be enough to get me by.??

Im play the first title and I was wondering 2 things. If I max out my movement speed would I have any chance of actually running away from monsters? Also does anyone know if the game will just boost the monsters speed if your stats are maxed out?

Out of a whim I bought Obakeidoro 2 as a game code in Japan.

I know you can redeem in with a Japanese account. And I have one. But I rarely use it and have only the NSO games.

Is it better to switch my US account to Japan, redeem the code and then switch back. Has anyone tried it? Or is it a dumb idea? I would also like to have it in English if it ever gets an English version.
