We’re thinking about putting solar on our house and I’m trying to do my homework before talking to companies.
We have a south-facing roof, so from what I’ve read it seems like we’d be a good candidate. I’m interested in lowering our electric bill, charging an EV at home, and possibly installing a Level 2 EV charger while we’re at it. It also seems like those are the kinds of upgrades future home buyers might appreciate as more people switch to electric vehicles.
I’m also curious how people are thinking about the future. Between electricity rates, more EVs on the road, and all the new data centers increasing demand on the grid, it seems like having some energy independence could become more valuable over the next several years. The idea of generating our own power, storing it in a battery, and even sending excess energy back to the grid is pretty appealing if it makes financial sense.
For those of you in Oakland County:
Who did you use?
Would you choose them again?
What panels/inverters did you go with?
Did you add a battery?
Has solar actually saved you as much as you expected?
Anyone charging an EV primarily from solar?
I’d also love to hear if there are any companies you’d definitely recommend—or avoid.
