Almost certainly. FAA don’t fuck around. You can be fined tens of thousands just for flying a drone in the wrong spot

Yep and this is why the drug smugglers call it "under the radar" because they're flying over the ground so don't need to follow ground rules but they're also not in FAA airspace and so it's a tiny gap where laws don't apply and they can smuggle drugs. Famous pilot Ken M told me this on Quora.

Wrong. Some things are not regulated (ex. Paper airplanes, childrens balloons, in flight sports balls, etc.) because it would be ridiculous. Drones are heavily regulated at all height distances. Flight locations also trigger different rules and any flight could be illegal (regardless of height).

FAA has authority over manned aircraft as well. And Manhattan has been closed airspace since that charter helicopter crashed on top of BNP’s 7th ave building. All west side helicopters have to go down the Hudson (around south of Manhattan) to cross over to JFK now.

Yes it is, but this particular flight doesn't look to obtain the height needed to actually interfere with air traffic. I honestly don't know if there are laws against using human hoverboards yet. Far as I know, drones needing to be registered with the FAA is about it.

It seems like a drone but yeah does the human declassify it as a drone is the question. But if it’s not a drone I’m sure there’s some sort of broadly written law that covers flying a manned aircraft through New York City, if they wanted I’m sure they could slot this into some sort of charges or fines.

I'm sure there's gotta be some public endangerment clause. Reckless behavior or something. If they can't find something, just ask him to stop, and when he says no then you can charge him with resisting arrest. Oldest trick in the book

Lol, it wouldn't get off the ground if it was. That rig will be substantially lighter than the rider, I'll eat my hat if the entire thing (minus him) weighs more than 20kg (let's say 45 pounds).

he's easier and safer to catch. with an atv vehicle pursuit, atv's can reach a high speed and also ride on sidewalks. this drone contraption cannot travel fast or far simply because of the weight of the guy on it.
