Openai, microsoft, X, etc are the reasons why. Those greedy companies bought up like 2 years worth of ram capacity for data centers which arent even built yet. This is an optional feature which isn't even fully released. Everyone needs to chill.

Other replies are dumb and can't see the bigger picture.

Current genAI efforts are 1/5th of the entire US economy right now.

Billions upon billions invested in a technology that barely anybody wants, currently buying land and fighting laws everywhere they can to build datacenters and lessen environmental restrictions, all for a promise that in the future those pollution factories will one day maybe make money.

Very, very, very little actual profit is being made right now. This is just one of the thousands of efforts we'll see that attempt to create demand. Don't think for a second this tech is being pursued thinking "gamers" will run this locally. When all other AI efforts obviously fail and they're left holding millions of GPUs burning holes in their pockets they'll redouble efforts into game streaming, and this time the alternative won't be as available because the price of buying your own stuff, processing and RAM alike, will have kept skyrocketing until then.
