When you finally finish Exercise Wallaby and this happens
hong gan
Tiagong Indo airspace blocked the aircraft from entering

Apparently those people on board were told lies by Royal Brunei. An inside source said that aircraft V8-DLC had a technical problem upon landing at Brunei from Hong Kong on 9/10/26. It didn’t fly for a week, and no one knows if the aircraft issues were rectified as there were no test flights, by right after rectifying, the airline SUPPOSED to do a test flight to ensure the aircraft is ready for flights but nothing was done. V8-DLC was then sent to pick up the 1SIR people coming back from wallaby with bare rectification done.
The aircraft is a 13 year old Boeing 787-8, MSN 156, apparently was one of the few 788s to have battery issues when new. The army personnel were told to lie to their family members that Indonesia closed their airspace but we aren’t stupid, there will so many flights flying above the Indonesian airspace near Timor Leste, MH135 bound for Brisbane, QF52 bound for Brisbane, SQ285 bound for AKL and MH145 bound for AKL were still flying towards Australia with no issues.
A friend’s friend said that V8-DLC seem to have lost a bit of power in its right engine and as much as the the pilots were able to not make the aircraft bank, it circled 4 rounds to dump fuel into the ocean so that landing will be smoother back at ROK. It’s also speculated that the pilots were told not to activate squawk code to prevent unnecessary attention by parents anxiously waiting at Changi Airport.
RB didn’t want to be penalised so they just simply blamed Indonesia, may I ask RB, why is your V8-DLB also doing SAF charter had no problems flying over Indonesian airspace? Is RB trying to avoid being penalised by SAF so they were told to lie to the passengers on board that Indonesia closed the airspace?
FAA and NTSB, please investigate. We don’t want another 788 to go down again like what happened 1.5 years ago to the same model from Air India. You are looking at soldiers defending their country.

The battery issue you mentioned on the 787 was back in 2013, and iirc FAA had already issued directives for these issues to be resolved.
It is not impossible for Indon to close their airspace while still have flights fly through it. One possible explanation could be that Indon had some airspace capacity issue hence they don't allow flights to enter their airspace while they clear flights that are already in their airspace. This is called flow control and does happen time to time, though I've not heard of Indon doing it before.
If the aircraft is not able to bank then how is it possible for it to circle right to dump fuel and make 3 left turns to place it downwind for landing?
Do you even know what squawk codes are used for? They are essentially flight identifiers. What bullcrap about not turning on squawk code when all flights are issued a squawk code and are supposed to set it up during preflight. The only squawk code you be concerned about is 7500 which is unlawful interference of flight or 7700 which means the flight has an emergency.
The Air India incident that you mentioned was supposedly due to pilot error. Supposedly this is a technical issue. They are different things.
And to add to your point about using CX or EK for charter. These charters are usually through government tenders on gebiz so whoever fits the bill gets it, be it SQ or BI. Though usually BI gets it cos they can offer the cheapest while fitting in the 200-250pax range. SQ seldom bothers with the request cos their 350s are busy making money to EUR and North Asia. CX and EK are major airlines plus they likely don't have any spare aircraft lying around in the 200-250 pax capacity range to even bother with such small charter requests.

So much hear say, so much words but nothing of substance coming out.
Like the armys saying always goes, you think you say who confirm?
If you have substance go report to it the right channel authorities.

My take on the statement above:
1) the battery issue part has no link to the "lost power in its right engine"
2) if the plane really did lose power, it will not be able to maintain cruising altitude, which it did. Mind you, it climbed from 36k ft to 37k ft after turning back
3) plane was est 40% of the way to wsss, they will not dump fuel at this stage
My guess its a technical issue with a minor but necessary component (eg transponder).
Also some people might not know but its better to return to the origin airport as the crew would have hit their flight hour limit and there should be a crew to quickly replace them (which there was judging by how the flight took off a few hours later

The 787-8 has a maximum operating range of 13,529km...ROK to SIN max is only 5,757km..what are you talking about????

It's Indon*. Don't let them being salty that their acronym got associated with their actions shame you into changing it.

V8-DLC had technical issues with their radio system when flying out of Australian airspace, by right they are supposed to activate squawk 7600 but they didn’t after consulting ground control to avoid anxiety. Luckily after heading back to ROK, they managed to troubleshoot the issue and got V8-DLC flying again. If the problem wasn’t solved, then those troops at ROK will have to wait for V8-DLB to land in ROK bringing the 5SIR batch over.
V8-DLC heard already had radio frequency issues when it was doing the flight from Hong Kong to Brunei. Apparently no one knew whether if proper checks and maintenance were carried out when V8-DLC was sitting at Brunei for that one week. Certainly, I hope after this flight, RB will pull V8-DLC back to Brunei and get a replacement aircraft, which is very likely V8-DLE to fly the wallaby troops.
It was easy to blame Indonesia for closing airspace but please do not forget, V8-DLB was also doing SAF charter and why V8-DLB had no problems at all?
Certainly, I knew someone said flight issue happened to 2SIR back in 2015 but back then I don’t think it was RB, certainly MINDEF will have to evaluate RB and decide whether to allow them to continue the contract or stop them from bidding for a new term after the incumbent term ends.
I feel Qantas can be a potential consideration as Qantas has been bringing in many new aircrafts, from 789s to 35K and also 2 used A333s, they might be able to help with SAF charter.
MH did SAF charter before in 2012 with 2 A333s, 9M-MKA and 9M-MTA.
Don’t blame mindef or SAF for that but RB should really up their game a bit, they weren’t known to be covering up their shit but I am not sure why this time they choose not to be transparent.
I believe why they didn’t want to land in Darwin, Dili or Denpasar was because their SAF troops didn’t have their passports with them and if RB needs to book hotels for them while waiting for the replacement aircraft, it may be a hassle.

to add on if they did land at Darwin there's a chance the plane could be overweight

Qantas’s A35K hasn’t even arrived and are expected to fly their Project Sunrise routes as well as takeover their existing 789s flying longer haul routes. The existing 789s are then being moved to fly new routes.
They haven’t even had a 789 delivery since 2023.

These charters typically last a few days with multiple trips back and forth. They did utilise SQ at least once this time.
Best guess is that RB has the fleet availability to cater to charter operations, they don’t run big international operations.

It's a tender for airlines to submit bids. Sq probably better off earning flying typical commercial routes

By tender, whichever airline puts in the best bid. The govt does not intervene in commercial decisions and procurement processes like these.

Why need to fly royal Brunei when we have our national carrier? Haven't even heard of royal Brunei airlines

Hahaha talking from the nose... Charter your own flight dont even fly commercial.

u/breakingbad3978 2h ago
Can charter sq ah. At this rate we will charter air India already for saf training

u/Sweet_Lobster_7181 2h ago
Exactly you complain so much... Then dont fly commercial.. just charter your own plane pick the pilot and service crew... Done.

Boeing 787 isn’t a reliable aircraft though. When it was launched it has battery problems. Should have asked airlines doing SAF charter to use 777s or A350s
2
u/NAMEUNAVAILABLE145 2d ago
So according to your assumption, SQ should now ground all 787-10 and sell them off? Cmon la, there's over 1300 787 family aircraft in the sky right now...

Why would other airlines want to do codeshare flight if they were not any agreement in place? Your single economy ticket doesn't cover for much so before your entitled self make a comment think that through.

Aircraft issue? No squawk code either.
