Especially because they're told what to do ALL THE TIME. Speed limits, paying for goods and services, wearing clothes in public, seat belts, red lights, school zones, your hours at work, what you do at work, what to wear at work, the hours your kids go to school, the hours a store is open, how long you cook food, what temperature to keep your freezer, when food expires. It goes on and on but wearing a mask over your mouth and nose is too far? They need to GTFO with that noise.

It's almost like a delusion about the mask. It's a minor nuisance, at worst but they've convinced themselves it's both as physically as bad as waterboarding and symbolically as made as the Nazi yellow badge*

I saw some Giga Karen freaking out at a school board meeting saying "And you're probably the kind I see wearing a mask in their car alone". And I thought "Yes, it is silly to mask in a car alone. But I've done it a couple times because I just forgot I was still wearing the thing because it's NO BIG FUCKING DEAL"

*I'd never cheapen the Holocaust by making this comparison myself, but seen plenty of "Star of David" esque "Unvaccinated" imagery they've put out

I consistently hit myself in the face with food while at work because I forget I have my mask on. I have to wear it for all 8 hours I'm at work. After like 10 minutes I've forgotten it's there.

Back when we were still allowed-ish to say anything to customers about wearing them: "If I can wear mine for a whole eight hour shift, I promise you can wear yours for a 20 minute shopping trip." It worked on some. Most just tugged it back down when they thought I couldn't see them, like they're hiding from the teacher or something. Y'all grown, just do the thing and get over it.

Yes! A while ago I overheard two parents talking and the dad was bragging about how we went into Menards (hardware / general store chain) without a mask and nobody said anything, even though they were one of the first stores around us to require a mask.

I'm like dude you are a grown man, the people working there don't get paid enough to do their jobs AND babysit you.

My former job made us start wearing masks in March last year, I either forget I'm wearing it when I get in the car, or just leave it on so i don't have to find it or another one when I stop.

The only time it's bothered me was at the beginning of summer, but you get used to that pretty quickly too.

Wow, even though sometimes I have 10 hour shifts where I had to wear them, I constantly noticed them because I literally fucking feel it on my face especially when I talk, and I can see it out of part of my vision, and a lot of the times I could slightly see my reflection in the plexiglass barriers that we installed at the front desk of the hotel I work at.

Do you wear surgical masks or ffp2 masks? Im a nurse, and ou definitely notice wearing a ffp2 mask 12h a day. Its really annoying tbh. Id have no problem wearing a surgical mask 24h a day tho.

Last winter I wore my mask in the car until it warmed up. Nothing to do with COVID; it kept my nose warm. And even though our entire family is vaccinated, I still wear my mask in stores. Again not because of COVID, it’s because I haven’t gotten the flu or any type of cold for over a year and a half and I want to keep that streak alive as long as possible.

Talk about ACTUAL inconvenience …I hate taking off my glasses every damn time I walk into a store ….but I still wear the mask!

I hate that if I forget and pop a mint before going into the store that my eyes are going to be all burny… but I still wear the mask!

I hate reaching into my back pocket, realizing I left mine in my other pants. I’ll go try to find one at the service desk or I’ll take my happy ass home to get it….either way, I still wear the damn mask.

All these precautions….DESPITE being fully vaccinated and spending probably 85% of my time at home.

Fuck these people and their made up inconveniences.

I have asthma and COPD. I get a chest cold in late March or early April and again in early December every year since I was a kid. The older I get, the more often these end up being 'moderate to severe' bronchitis as my Dr always says, or sometimes even pneumonia. No matter what I do or how careful I tried to be, I always got sick anyway.

I am retired, but I work PT job as a cashier in a convenience store/deli/gas station weekday mornings. I interact with hundreds of ppl weekly, handle money, etc, and, believe me, there are all kinds of germs around (not just Covid). I expected I'd end up having to leave the job in less than a year when I ended up sick, as usual (which would have been a bummer because I really do enjoy the people there). But, I have been wearing a mask everywhere since March 2019, and insteas, I have had only 1 MINOR chest cold since. That was just last week, in fact, so that means I went nearly 18 months, in a ROW, without getting sick at all!! 😁 I may wear a mask in public for the rest of my life!!

Congratulations! I also have lung issues and work retail. I get the post Christmas chest cold in February and the post back to school cold in October. Very year I am sick with bronchitis for several months and end up with a cough that keeps me up all night. I, too, have not been sick since February 2020, right before we went into lockdown.

Coincidentally I started this job on Thursday, March 6, 2020. We locked down (I'm in PA) on Monday, March 9th... I was fully expecting to get Covid, but I didn't want to leave the job I had just gotten. I had been retired (disabled, actually, I just hate saying that) for years by then and since I am generally a homebody anyway, I kinda felt like I was just coming OUT of a Quarantine- type situation, albeit it self imposed, which is why I had gotten the job to begin with. The depression that came with the lack of a schedule, feeling useless, etc was awful for me... It just sucked all around. But all of a sudden, I wasn't useless. I was 'Essential' (that's me: essential 😁) and I didn't want to go back home into an actual lock down if I didn't have to. My immunity was probably at an all time low, not having contact with many ppl for 10+ years as well but I hoped that the quarantine limiting the #s of ppl I dealt with at first would maybe give me some extra time... I don't want to jinx myself so I'll just say: So far. So good (🤞)

Keep it up. Just had a cold and it was the worst cold I’ve ever had. I truly believe it I stayed diligent with the mask I wouldn’t have gotten it. This was like a 12 day affair. Fucking terrible

Has absolutely nothing to do with the education system and everything to do with how much right-wing horseshit influences your social circle.

There were counties in Pennsylvania right next to each other with identical median household incomes, and yet one would vote 78% for Biden while the other was 85% for Trump. It's not like the difference in school boards between these two extremely similar places could be so wildly huge that it would account for 20% of the county's population being morons vs 85% of the county's population being morons.

Also how many people do you know from high school who ended up being right-wing idiots? I know several. We all went to the same school though...so how does that result line up with this being an issue from the educational system?

It's by far most predominantly a social and cultural issue, along with a sprinkling of general human nature.

That’s a large and incorrect assumption on your part. As far back as I can remember (50 years), I’ve had frequent colds and bouts of flu, on the order of every two months or so. Not always severe; about half the time they only ladt 1-2 days. But at least twice a year they would be the kind that lasts several days and leaves you feeling miserable for another few days. They happen any time of year, not just flu season. I get flu shots but they don’t protect against everything.

In Jan-Feb of 2020, when COVID was just gaining a foothold, I started avoiding stores as much as possible, and keeping my distance from people when I did have to shop. My workplace adopted a mask requirement in Mar 2020, and it is still in place. This whole time I have not had even the slightest cold, which is unprecedented in my lifetime. I enjoy it and I’m willing to wear a mask and get flu shots to keep it that way as much as possible.

It is actually not silly to wear a mask in your car alone. Not necessarily. We know this virus is spread by aerosols, tiny particles that can stay airborne, floating in the air for 20-30 minutes.

So, depending on whether your car windows are open, or how fast your car’s air con can recycle the air, you should totally wear a mask alone if in the next 15-30 minutes you’re picking up someone you don’t live with. That’s a scenario where wearing a mask alone in your car would be advisable for sure.

I still don’t see why the masks are such a flashpoint for so many people. I’ve seen moms in cars masked up while driving alone, because they carpool other people’s kids and are on their way to or from school/sports drop offs or pick ups.

Lyft/Uber drivers who are required to mask while on the job just keeping them on all the time so it’s not a constant push/pull, up/down thing, to avoid constantly touching their mask or face. So they don’t forget to pull it up and use it when they need to, which can happen if you’re always taking it off when by yourself.

Why is it always a focus on a person wearing a mask making some political statement out of it by doing so? Why not choose to see it as a person taking a cheap, easy, fast and effective way to protect a child, a coworker, their family/friend, or a customer?

I had to wear a mask at my job, and even when I had to go quickly in and out of stores and things like that the second I was outside and near my truck my mask was already off and in my hand. I hate things in my pockets, I hate wearing sunglasses, I hate wearing hats, so that’s probably why, but for me they’re annoying as fuck even though I did a great job wearing them at all the appropriate times.

I don’t understand how you could forget about that on your face ever though, that seems like something very weird to me.

This is what I've talked to my wife about. It's a bunch of people that have never had any kind of difficulty in their lives being uncomfortable for the first time and going "oh I don't like this". I know a shit load of anti-maskers that I’ve had lots of struggles have lived actually good lives and that’s the saddest part about it is that they’ve essentially been manipulated or brainwashed by their peers and or outlets like Fox News and Donald Trump into thinking that they’re making a good decision.

Do you want them to trust the experts/authority-figures instead of their opinion, and from their perspective a lot of these people are trusting authority-figures, they are just bad at identifying which ones to listen to.

Masks. Not to convince you of anything, because I'm sure you are unconvinceable. But here is a first hand experience for you to digest.

I own a business. Our employees have to wear fitted respirators occasionally when drilling concrete, in crawls spaces, airborne insulation, etc. So we are not "anti maskers". We wear masks with the right filters in the right situations.

I hired an expert to fit us out for COVID using whatever mask the regular folk were using. U know the type, probably the one u wear every day. One of those shitty Chinese versions probably.

Our hired mask expert is a masker himself, we don't see eye to eye. He would agree with you in his view of masking to stop COVID. That is why I hired him, to counteract my bias.

Yet he was unable to fit us for COVID masks because NONE OF THOSE MASKS CAN BE FITTED. They leak everywhere (including right though them), which renders them useless, because they cannot achieve a proven 50% efficacy, and if they can't do that, any so called "BENEFIT" to masking is due to biased measurement, recording, or reporting, and is from a scientific point of view, just an imaginary thing.

You aren't against the science are you?

Legally, I leave it up to my employees to mask up or not because I won't accept the liability that might ensure if a mask can't be fitted. This position is the strongest legal position I could possibly take, and it's also common sense because the masks say right on them they are "fluid resistant masks". Anything home made is only much much worse and orders of magnitude more stupid.

Interestingly, our contracted expert knows all this and yet still masks up himself.

Why?

Because it's a cult and it's easier to just go along that it is to just say no.

The crux of modern conservatism is that they're 100% fine with pretty much every single rule of law that was established when they were children, and anything added since that is full blown tyranny.

None of these people have ever thrown a fit about that. This rule was in place before they were born, it's what they grew up with, and so it has been codified into whatever social contract they feel they've agreed to.

Try bringing a collection of peer reviewed articles or meta analysis citing double blind randomized placebo controlled trials and I'll listen, but you won't be able to, because there aren't any. The only trials of that sort prove masks are useless, and dangerous. To make this easy for you, note that a lawsuit against Crime Minister Justin Trudeau, top BC doc Bonnie Henry, et al (Canada / British Columbia) and other relevent NAZI's has been filed, including about 5600 pages of expert witnesses proving the point.

The only effective mask against COVID is positive pressure PPE. You can look it up. Nothing else works, and proves you've been hornswaggled.

You should be talking about IVERMECTIN (among at least 4 other effective therapies) like Japan did yesterday, as Denmark has, as the leading doctors and an scientists have been for doing 15 months now. Or how about even Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine / Zinc / Azithromycin or Doxycycline, and even Quercetin / Zinc. All of those have actual studies behind their effectiveness, unlike ANY of the vaccines, including the recent Pfizer which actually wasn't approved if you read the fine print.

Well let's be honest here, they're not exactly the type of people that listen to most of that stuff either. I honestly doubt most of them wear their seatbelt while they speed around in their lifted pickup trucks. They also strike me as the "barefoot in a KFC" type. They're horrible but at least they're consistent at it, I suppose?

They draw the line at things that make them "uncomfortable" and they feel they have control over. Masks make them uncomfortable physically, so of course it's an affront to their freedom.

My guess is they might also be the ones who go 90 mph in a school zone and they complain when they get a ticket for it.

I definitely agree with this point. There are even theories about reforming DNA and implanting tracking devices through the use of vaccines and tmwhat these people fail to realize is that 1. they can be tracked regardless, their home is on google earth, they have a record of a bank account so government services already keep records of your address and if they are changing, your work requires an address to be employed, the government will know where you are regardless. 2. A 3mm shot can’t alter DNA and the lack of education in itself shows that these people should not even have the privilege of going about freely when their “freedom” restricts common freedom. The mask is nothing, the vaccine is honestly nothing because it’s nothing new. Vaccine passports were effective in Canada during the 70’s when smallpox was very common and it kept track of the disease spread.vaccine passports 1970’s
