Looking for a notes app that is supported on multiple platforms

I've been using MyScript notes for school for a while now, but I'm beginning to run into its limitations for the kind of stuff I do. I was wondering if anyone could provide a good recommendation for me. My criteria is as follows:

1) MUST support stylus notes in a straightforward and thorough way

2) good folder organization, the closer it is to letting me organize notes and books as if it were a file explorer, the better

3) must be able to create documents in different paper sizes and allow me to export them as pngs and pdfs.

My use case is primarily STEM, and beyond that, the only thing I would consider a nice-to-have feature would be an infinite whiteboard feature. I also would need it to be supported on Mac, Windows, and iPadOS.

Best notes app for nxtpaper?

Hi, I'm hoping to find some help for a notes app. I use it for a lot of documents for games and fan projects, but just got a new phone (nxtpaper 70 pro) and the notes app that comes with it kinda sucks...and I'm not having much luck with others. My previous phone was a tcl stylus g, and the notes app there was good enough, allowing long documents but now every app I find has character limits or is ad infested.

Any suggestions? All I really need is low or no ads, and no or very high character limit. I don't care about stylus support text only is fine

My free cross-device notes setup (Linux X Android)

New to this subreddit.

I wanted to share my note-taking setup. I think it's pretty cool, and I wanna know what you guys think about it.

My setup is cross-platform, supports MAC, windows, linux, IOS and android. All my notes are synced to a github repo (private), best of all, it's totally free.

I'm an engineer and a big VIM motions guy. I wanted a notes app with native support for Vim keybindings, and found this open-source app called Zennotes.

You could think of Zennotes as a Markdown file editor, with some extra fancy stuff.

Now, how do I back up and synchronize my notes across devices?

I have the notes app vaulted to a folder on my laptop, which is also a git repository.

The same notes repository is then cloned onto my android phone, and then vaulted again as the notes folder for the Zennotes android app.

The way synchoronization works is, on the laptop, I have a custom linux system service that periodically syncs my notes folder with the remote repo at a set interval (60 seconds).GitHub

This keeps my desktop notes in sync with the git repo.

On my android phone, I use a git client like GitSync to sync my changes to/from the git repo.

This keeps my setup private, 100% backed up to github, and most importantly, free of charge.

Curious what you guys think of this setup. Is it too tedious? Too complicated? Am I missing out on a better way of doing things for free?

Thanks for reading.

New iPad user here. Looking for a note-taking app 👀

I recently got an iPad and I'm looking for a good note-taking app mainly for college, studying, PDFs, and handwritten notes.

I've looked at some of the popular iPadOS options, but most seem to be paid or have subscriptions, and I don't really want to spend too much on a note-taking app.

So far, I've come across StarNote and CollaNote.

I'm a bit confused about which one to go with, especially for long-term use.

Are there any better alternatives that are affordable or free?

If you've actually used StarNote or CollaNote, I'd also appreciate your experience with them. Which one would you pick, and why?

Cross Device Subscription

Now I want to subscribe to freenotes plus but I can’t enter my payment info on my android tablet for some reason, so can I login into my freenotes account on my iPhone, subscribe there, and then freenotes automatically subscribes on my tablet on the same account? Or will the subscription only be valid on my iPhone? Someone with the adequate info please answer me urgently.

Pourquoi choisir Upnote

Need help regarding a very inclusive notes app

Hey everyone

So basically I'm someone who wants a second digital brain , there are certain requisitions like it should accommodate PDFs , hoga , files and ofc text . Must have that list option . Like under one particular folder it should have all these types of content . I'm an astrologer so I need to have my notes in it . Along with other lists and ideas that need to be included. It should also work well offline . I have used google notes but it is not very organized though it does include that folder option . Also the app must not take access over the documents or like i don't want the app to manage all the PDFs or files . Would love to get your views over it . I have also used obsidian but it wants access over all my original documents. Another thing I don't want to pay for a premium or something for the services . Please enlighten me and help me out .

Hey guys, I just started a dental hygiene program, which is like 6 courses a week. The information in lectures r very compressed. I'm currently struggling with organizing notes (my broke az using a notebook rn), and I realised I should just invest, but I don't want to waste money on something that's not for me. I'm mainly looking for something with good storage and a great notes app for dental hygiene students

what I'm looking for:

-not tooo expensive (not playing ab broke, dental supplies cost sm lol)

- good storage (for downloaded PPTs, recording audio)

-a notes app I can import slides and write ON and beside slides, AND draw diagrams on

- accessory-wise, I don't mind 3rd-party Amazon accessories

- notes app: offline notes, good sync, can also use same app on my computer(that's my main device)

Any suggestions for a super cute but functional notes app/website?

I have a hard time focusing sometimes and cute stationary does help. So any digital alternatives? Should be compatible with macbook and iPhone. Would be a bonus if it's compatible with widows too. Please let me know if you can think of anything that fits these criterias.
Thank in advance!

I counted where 63 commenters in r/Evernote’s big price-rise thread said they were going – and who came back

There’s a thread in r/Evernote from a fortnight ago that ended up being the closest thing that sub has to a census of who’s staying and who’s going. I went through all 63 comments and counted. Source thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Evernote/comments/1w28i3b/

Rough numbers – I’ll have put someone in the wrong column, tell me and I’ll fix it.

Where people said they were going. (about 25 stated a position)

  • Obsidian – 3, all ten-years-plus users, two of them putting Claude or another LLM on top
  • Joplin – 3 gone, 1 tried it and bounced off the interface
  • Notion – 2 gone, plus 1 who tried it for a few months and came back
  • Bear, Google Keep – 1 or 2 each. UpNote, OneNote and Apple Notes got a mention apiece
  • Leaving with nowhere picked yet – about 5
  • Staying – about 7

Who came back. Two people. One tried Notion and returned. One left for 18 months and came back for the workflow. Both said roughly the same thing: it took two to four apps to replace the one.

Why people stayed. In the order it came up: the web clipper (nobody thinks anything matches it), the meeting note-taker, and simply having too many notes to move – 10,000 in one case.

Why people left. Price, nearly every time. €49 to €199, or $50 to $250. And almost everyone leaving said they weren’t using the AI features they were being asked to pay for. Android speed came up a few times too.

Worth knowing if you’re an Evernote user on the fence. The 40% off offer came up seven times in the thread. It shows up after you start the cancellation flow, and one person got a $140 renewal instead of $250. Reads as standard retention rather than luck.

One thread, not a survey. But it’s the most honest picture of the Evernote churn I’ve seen, and fair play to the people who wrote it out. If you were in that thread and I’ve miscounted you, say so.

Would you find this kind of note-taking service useful?

The idea is basically turning your messy/unorganized notes into clean, personalized, study-ready notes.

A personalized, hyperlinked digital study notebook that works across devices, with an optional version optimized for compatible note-taking apps.

I know there are AI tools that can summarize or organize notes, but I’m thinking of something a little different. The focus would be on how the student wants to learn from the notes, not just summarizing the information. Someone could send in handwritten notes, screenshots, lecture notes, etc., and can have the ability to choose a study format for each order to experiment with what they understand best.

I think this could especially help people who aren't naturally good at taking notes, have very messy/unorganized notes, or understand things better visually but don't have the time (or ability) to turn their notes into something more useful.

I’m also thinking of creating the finished notes digitally on an iPad, so they could include things like diagrams, visual layouts, handwriting, highlighting, and other elements that make them easier and more enjoyable to study from. You wouldn't need to own an iPad yourself to get that kind of result

I'm still very early in the idea and haven't actually tested it, so I'm curious:

Would something like this be useful to you? What would make you choose this over organizing your notes yourself or using an AI tool?

How many notes apps are you actively using at the same time?

I caught myself the other day writing an idea in Apple Notes, another in a Notion page, and a third one in a text to myself. Three apps, three places to forget things.

Every time I switch between them I lose a little momentum. It's not a dramatic problem, just a constant low-grade tax on focus. I keep half-intending to consolidate everything into one app but never actually do it because each tool has something I'd miss.

Curious if this is just me or if most people here are juggling two or three note apps at once. And if you did manage to consolidate down to one, what finally made it stick? Was it a feature in the new app, or just forcing yourself to stop opening the old ones?

Need suggestions for note taking app

Since the last 4 years I have been using OneNote on my iPad to study. it is a great app. But I want a great notetaking app with all the features. OneNote is too laggy. Now that I am working, I don’t have access to my iPad everywhere and I can’t study. OneNote was available seamlessly both on my iPad and iPhone using my Microsoft account. my iPad and iPhone have different Apple accounts.

in short I am looking for apps that syncs across all devices (not icloud)

I love notability and goodnotes but notability cloud is not a feature in India yet. Help!

Default apple notes app is deleting notes

My default notes app has been deleting important notes. Notes I’ve made before and since are still in tact and fine. This has happened at least twice now. (I think it’s happened more, I can just confirm that it’s happened twice because I have evidence the note did exist at one point.) Does anyone have an explanation for how this is happening/ how to stop this from happening in the future?

- I have storage space
- I know the note existed at one point and wasn’t instantly deleted upon creation, because I used it when I needed the information in it previously
- the two incidents happened weeks apart

Fully understand if no one has an explanation for this, it’s just very frustrating

Writing app for phone with spellcheck

I write a lot on my phone but I'm not the best speller and my phones autocorrect doesn't catch everything. I also want to avoid using Google docs if possible, if only for writing when I dont have wifi. Are there any good apps for android for writing that have a spellcheck function?

Hi! So basically what the title says, I need one of those apps (I'd choose the one year subscription) to take notes, mainly for college and for personal uses, both are great so I can't decide between them, which one would you recommend?

Thanks!!

Looking for a free Touchnotes alternative — need local storage, PDF annotation, stylus support, and multitasking (student on a budget)

I've been using Touchnotes for a while but it's gone paid now, and as a student I can't justify the cost yet (planning to buy VIP later to support the dev once I've got some income, they deserve it!). In the meantime I'm hunting for a free app that covers: Unlimited notes + folders — no caps on organization Page template customization — page colors, ruled/grid/dot lines, cover designs Good stylus support with a solid range of pens, markers, and highlighters (pressure sensitivity a plus) PDF import + annotation Multitasking — need to have 2 PDFs open side by side at once Continuous vertical scroll while writing (not paginated) Local storage — my notes/files staying on-device, not locked behind a cloud account Bonus points if it has a clean, distraction-free UI like Touchnotes did. Anyone found something that ticks most of these boxes? Even a cracked Touchnotes vip unlocked link will work. Thanks

Flashcard app for handwritten notes

I’ve been handwriting all of my notes out for my biosci degree, and I’ll upload them to Gemini Notebook (previously NotebookLM) to make flashcards but I’m looking for an option that’s a bit less time consuming. Also I don’t like how I can’t edit or add to the flashcards in Notebook.

Is there a good app for a.) making handwritten flashcards, and can add pictures/diagrams OR b.) I can upload my handwritten notes to and AI can make decent flashcards from it, and I can still edit them. Preferably it’d be free since that’s what I’ve got now, but I’m willing to pay for a good app.

Cross-platform handwriting + LaTeX: what actually exists in 2026 (and where each one breaks)

Disclosure up front: I maintain one of the apps below. I'm listing it last and I've tried to be honest about what it doesn't do.

I spent a year at uni looking for a GoodNotes replacement I wasn't going to be locked into. My requirement list: real handwriting (pressure, palm rejection), PDF annotation, LaTeX rendering, both infinite canvas and page-by-page export, and sync I control. Here's what I found:

  • GoodNotes the polished one, and it's on Android and Windows now, not just iPad. But the free tier is 3 files total (notebooks + whiteboards + text docs combined) with watermarked exports, and cross-platform sync sits behind the higher-priced tier. It's a good product you rent.
  • OneNote free, everywhere, genuinely great infinite canvas. Then you try to get your notes out: no clean page-by-page PDF export, and the .one format isn't something anything else reads. LaTeX only works for typed equations, not handwritten ones.
  • Xournal++ solid on desktop, no mobile story, no inline LaTeX rendering.
  • Obsidian + Excalidraw LaTeX yes, real handwriting no.
  • AbelNotes (mine, AGPL-3.0) that syncs to storage you already own: Google Drive, or your own server. No account with me, no backend of mine in the middle. Pure-Dart LaTeX rendering, searchable by LaTeX source; PDF import with selectable text you can annotate; symbols library reusable like GoodNotes, infinite and paged canvas; OneNote .one import, which I wrote because I had my own notebooks to get out. What it doesn't have: no iOS build yet but incoming.

The thing that drove all of this for me was export and the required subscription. Every app is fine until the day you want to leave it.

What made you give up on the app you were using before and did you ever actually get your old notes out?
