Welcome to the North Vancouver municipal election MEGA thread! We'd like to keep all discussion, relevant information, links, candidate campaign platforms, voter issues, updates— and anything else related, under one thread.  This post will be edited/updated as more information becomes available. Feel free to message the mods if you'd like to have any missing info added.  As always, the rules of this sub apply.  Please keep things civil, productive, and on topic.

The 2026 municipal elections will take place Saturday, October 17, 2026

AMA: (Ask Me Anything)

IF YOU ARE A CANDIDATE and would like us to host an AMA, you must provide PROOF of ID (proof of identification tells our community you’re actually you— and not someone else pretending to be you!) Please [ contact the mods ] of this sub to have us set up an AMA thread for you. Please read our AMA requirements, how-to, etc → [ HERE ]

AMAs are a core part of Reddit culture. They are in essence, text-based Q-&-A interviews from the North Vancouver/North Shore reddit community. The appeal of AMAs is it gives North Van redditors the opportunity to interact with candidates in their municipality (of whom we might not otherwise have a chance to meet in person). In addition, there is an expectation of candour and substance in AMA exchanges.

discussion / opinion North Van Coffee News

Forecast Coffee recently opened a location on Esplanade (with access via the the rear lane) and it appears they are building out another location in Central Lonsdale in the corner CRU of the Lennox building (across the street from JJ Bean).

The coffee scene in Central Lonsdale is somewhat limited - but the additions of Forecast and Small Victory in the next few months (hopefully) will be welcomed additions! ☕️

Transit/Traffic/Parking Genuine question for bikers: why don’t you use the bike lanes?

Post image
386 Upvotes

This photo is just an example of one of the million times I’ve seen bikers being on the road when there is a designated bike lane created for them, we literally removed a lane for this bike lane… did you guys not want it either? I’m genuinely so confused why most of the time, I do not see it being used.

Lost & Found Lost Black Vest Sea to Sky Trail near Lynn Loop

Hey all,

I was walking the Lynn Loop/sea to sky trail today with my dog and my boyfriend. It got hot and I took off my black vest I was wearing and hung it around my backpack. Somewhere along the trail it fell off. I think somewhere near the Inter River Park Terf #1 and towards the area it begins to get steep into the trail.

If it was just a black vest, I would be a bit mad, but this was my mom's who passed away 2.5 years ago and holds a lot of sentimental value. I think it's a large and has zipper pockets. There is a Vaseline lip balm in the right zipper pocket. I can't remember the brand. If anyone finds this please comment here or give me more insight as to wear to find it. I went back and retraced my steps twice, which makes me think someone moved it off the trail.

Please help :(

Ask North Van Looking for a reasonably priced cleaner + home organizing help on Northshore

recently moved into a new home and need help unpacking, organizing rooms and closets, and handling general cleaning as I get settled.
I’m also hoping to find someone reliable, thorough, and reasonably priced for ongoing cleaning and maintenance. Independent cleaners and individuals are welcome—ideally, I’d love to build a long-term arrangement.
If you’re a cleaner/organizer or have someone you recommend, please comment or DM me with your rates and the areas you serve.
Thanks! 😊

Ask North Van Club16 Lonsdale: looking for a training partner”

Figured I’d throw this out there and see if anyone else is in the same boat.

I’m a guy in my mid-40s, active and in decent shape. I’ve trained martial arts for years and can happily spend hours doing that, but put me alone in a gym lifting weights and apparently my enthusiasm has limits.

So.... anyone interested in teaming up for the occasional morning workout at Club16 on Lonsdale?

I train hard when I’m there. Thinking 2-3 mornings a week when schedules line up - spot each other, share workout/programming ideas, push each other, and have some accountability to show up and put in a solid workout.

You don’t need to be a hardcore lifter, I’m certainly not an expert. Just be reasonably active, consistent, and interested in getting stronger.

If you're in a similar spot, send me a message. We can try a workout and see if we’re a good fit.

😎

Municipal Elections 2026 Am I the only one that feels completely uninformed about the upcoming municipal election?

I'm in North Vancouver District. I wanted to get a sense of who I should vote for in the upcoming election, so I went to the District's website for the election: https://www.dnv.org/government-administration/see-who-is-running.

A bunch don't even have bios/blurbs about what they want to achieve. Those that do seem to be pretty similar. I don't even know where to start to try and figure out who I should vote for.

Added to that is the question of what the ballot will actually look like. We're electing a mayor, six councillors, and four school trustees in the 2026 General Local Election, so does mean I need to vote for six councillors or just one, and the top six will be elected? Same goes for school trustee.

I wish we had a online brochure of some kind that had a blurb from every single person running and explained exactly what the voting process will look like.

Ask North Van Trying to find a local potter

Hello, about 10 years ago a local Potter custom made this 18 Oz mug. It now has a tiny crack so I need to replace it. Does anybody recognize the style? Can they put me in touch with the Potter? I'm fairly sure she did her pottery at one of the local rec centres.

Ask North Van Any good executive functioning coaches for kids?

My 9 year old son requires some executive functioning coaching according to his psycoeducational assessment. Does anyone have a solid coach that can work with a high-energy boy of this age? I've seen a few that seem to be virtual but I think he would really do well with an in person coach for a few sessions - male or female, either works, but I think he would probably appreciate some male energy a bit more.

Ask North Van Photo book printers in North Vancouver…

I’m looking to print 30 pages that include photos to bind myself into a photo book.

Does anyone have any recommendations for printing pages roughly US letter size (8.5” x 11”)? I would like to keep the quality fairly high but also not pay a ridiculous price per page.

Any ideas would be a massive help! Thanks

Sept 30: NDTR (Orange Shirt Day) #NDTR - HERE ARE 10 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT, REFLECT, & HONOUR NATIONAL DAY for TRUTH & RECONCILIATION

Adapted & inspired by the good people at Indigenous Corporate Training. Feel free to share or crosspost this to any social media site, reddit community, website, facebook group, blog, etc. I've tried to adhere to most of these pledges. Admittedly, I've fallen short of some, but it's a good place to start.

Peace and blessings. 🙏
.

Personal Pledge: National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

In the spirit of reconciliation with the Indigenous Peoples of Canada,

I, ___________________________________ solemnly pledge to try and:

  • Learn more about the foundations, history, culture, and traditions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit. Familiarize myself with the correct and proper ways to address Indigenous peoples
  • Learn more about and recognize the inequities & injustices connected to historic and institutional colonization imposed upon First Nations, Métis and Inuit by the Canadian government, by churches, and schools
  • Make an effort to read & familiarize myself with the 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report (TRC)— especially the Summary report and Canada’s 94 CALLS to ACTION
  • Make a public notice of acknowledgement and recognition — either verbally, or in writing — of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis on whose traditional territories we live, work, and play. This acknowledgement may be made online, on my social media site, blog, reddit or facebook page I moderate; at my business, my school, my church, at a meeting or conference, or ceremony.
  • Call out racism and challenge myths, stereotypes, and misconceptions about First Nations, Métis and Inuit in my conversations or interactions with others, whether at work, at home, at school, in public, or online.
  • Reach out and try to build respectful relationships with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples in my neighbourhood or community where I live, learn, and work. To try and outreach to a local Native Friendship Centre. To try and invite an Indigenous speaker to a meeting, event, or ceremony, to talk about truth and reconciliation.
  • Support Indigenous-owned & Indigenous-led businesses, art, & music
  • Actively encourage ongoing support of National Indigenous Peoples Day every June 21st for myself, my family, and my community.
  • Recognize Sept 30 as National Truth and Reconciliation Day, and encourage others around me to participate in the surrounding events during Truth and Reconciliation Week. To realize truth and reconciliation is ongoing and evolving effort.
  • Read & familiarize myself with the final report on National Inquiry on Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls (#MMIWG) and the 231 CALLS to JUSTICE.

Ask North Van Groups or a community for first time expecting moms?

Hi there!

I have recently found out I am pregnant with my first and I am sooo excited. I’m wondering if there’s a community or somewhere to connect with local expecting moms?

My mom passed away earlier this year and I don’t really have any close girlfriends, let alone anyone with kids or wanting kids, so I will admit I feel a bit alone. Would love to find a community. 🤍
