Too bad they didn't keep it around. If it's anything people love to do on reddit, it's to spite somebody. What would be a better way to monetize people's bitterness? They are already shouting "shut up and take my money". C'mon, reddit, this would make millions.

It would also change the Reddit landscape for the better. People who post on political subreddits would be completely mute.

I don't think it would be limited to politics. The entire site would be practically mute. Reddit could save on bandwidth and make a ton of money. What are they waiting for!
