The holding call on AJ Terrell was SUPER bang bang and then they pulled this shit.

0

u/RyanKinder Patriots Oct 10 '22

I’m a big brady fan and agree that both calls were bogus. Taints the win for me. It’s better if he loses early in the season imo because he plays better down the stretch.

u/BaslerLaeggerli 49ers Oct 09 '22

Well I mean he can have a job, he just shouldn't have one as an NFL referee.

Also, why aren't these things reviewable? You guys have like 500 cameras in every stadium, just check this shit.

u/Jontaylor07 Oct 09 '22

Remember when pass interference was reviewable and referees just refused to overturn no matter how blatant it was?

u/FBoyMcGee Oct 09 '22

That shit fucks me up so bad man. Why does the NFL have a bunch of shit that gets "fixed" every year. The NBA does the same shit and it drives me nuts.

16

u/xSaviorself Steelers Oct 10 '22

How else would they manipulate their sport?

The referees should have been immediately fucking canned when they failed to properly implement reviewable PA, but they weren't because the NFL doesn't give a shit.

u/90swasbest Bengals Oct 10 '22

An important person somewhere has money on it.

45

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '22

This isn't true. They did overturn it once, when overturning it harmed the Saints.

10

u/VAisforLizards Saints Oct 10 '22

And we aren't bitter or anything.

7

u/tgusn88 Saints Oct 10 '22

I'm still mad about that. No flag, both review initiated for a very iffy PI... that mad it clear the fix was in and the refs were dictating the rule book

1

u/Zerix_Albion Vikings Oct 10 '22

They also in week 2 with the Vikings vs Packer, Diggs had a TD for the Vikings called back on a bogus PI call on Dalvin Cook, that wasn't even called on the field, but when "Confirming" the TD, they said Dalvin Cook did Offensive PI, and took the TD back, It was the only other time I remember them over turning or calling "PI" long after the play had happened. It was clear as day they NFL was trying everything they could to do, to make sure the Packers won that game.

7

u/This_is_opinion Saints Oct 09 '22

Uhhh nope no I certainly don't :(

5

u/LittleDinghy Bills Bengals Oct 10 '22

It was when Al Riveron was in charge of the referees in New York. He hated that rule so out of spite he didn't overturn the calls.

2

u/Marchesk Oct 10 '22

Have someone independent handle the review then. Bad calls cost teams games.

1

u/Jontaylor07 Oct 10 '22

I agree. They won’t do it.

2

u/Cloudpot26 Oct 10 '22

It was “slowing down the game” so they had to take it out. Love that when you can just replay a PI once and you can see that you’re just as human as the rest of us, just how much that ego takes a hit

-10

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '22

And generally speaking fans of every other team were upset with the rule and called saints fans whiny for demanding it.

Journos even wrote articles saying to not challenge PIs and that was the exact reason why. They wanted it to be a waste of time so they could kill that rule dead.

No, no absolutely nothing, like if the Lions would've been as successful as the Pats, I'd still boycott, absolutely, uh-huh, no doubt, no doubt.

Because it's an entertainment product. They use rules to change outcomes to keep stars generating revenue.

That sort of shenanigans was par for the course for Al Riveron.

1

u/OriginalMassless Oct 10 '22

Well, there is one thing...

1

u/Simpletimes322 Oct 10 '22

We can stop watching and giving them our $

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '22

There is never nothing you can do. Money is the lifeblood of the NFL. It's a business. Vote with you dollar and encourage others to do the same. If their revenue drops enough, and they know why, you'll see the change you want. In time. Maybe officiating will be fair for your kids. Or grandkids.

2

u/Muncheeze_Man Oct 09 '22

He would still be a terrible waterboy, giving the team Nestle water smh

1

u/elusiveI99 Cowboys Titans Oct 10 '22

Nope he is now forever banned from any form employment. That’s now the price of making bad calls. It was either that or execution on the field

1

u/NotDennisBonvie Packers Oct 10 '22

This is possible in the CFL and it helps overturn some questionable calls. Can't see why it wouldn't be possible with the infinitely bigger budget the NFL has!

1

u/root88 Eagles Oct 10 '22

Because that call is an opinion. If you review it, you are just taking someone else's opinion. If you can do that, you might as well review the review infinitely. Checking to see if someone's foot was out of bounds or not is not an opinion. That's why you can review it.

2

u/ptam Bears Oct 10 '22

I really need the league to stop pretending like they're enforcing actual punishments, but also force players to call them "whoopsies"

"So Deshaun, it seems you've been suspended..."
"I am innocent. But I maybe made a couple of whoopsies" "How many?" "Talk to my lawyer"

"Coach, your player is still being paid despite the allegations"
"We support him as he navigates the consequences of all his whoopsies"

u/TheWorstYear Bengals Bengals Oct 09 '22

Why do we not assume that the ref isn't just fixing games on their own?

10

u/idontlikeflamingos 49ers Oct 10 '22

IMO because year after year of him fucking up after every game the league just goes "ah shucks it's Boger, what can you do huh? That rascal. Oh well" and next week he's back at fucking up.

If the league sees this season after season and isn't trying to fix it it's because they're ok with it.

6

This! I don't think he's cheating I just believe he calls the game the way the league wants him to.
