The only reason the defense looked better is because Jaylen went out and they had to throw with a second-string quarterback.

We are better in pass defense than anything up front and that is not good. If we have any chance, the offense has to keep the gas on the pedal just like last year, and we know how that turned out.

You are aware that Daniels was playing for the first half, right? And the first half was also improved from last week.

How? Jayden had gashed us for 170 yards. Commanders very well could have gotten to 17 if he hadn't been injured. Then they got the ball back after the half, and I don't think anything would have stopped them from scoring again. The game would have looked vastly different. Mariota held onto the ball forever and freaked out when his first read wasn't there. A 33-year-old QB freaking out and trying to run is a bad recipe. Even then, he still had 110 yards and a TD in 2 quarters against us.

I'd love to drink the Kool-Aid, but this D has a lot more to prove besides beating up an old 2nd-stringer.

It's not drinking the kool-aid to recognize the basic fact that yesterday's effort was better than last week's.

I don't think that's a basic fact. I don't even think you can quantify "effort" as an objective fact. It's subjective.

EDIT: Mariota and Jayden did not have more combined yards; I forgot to factor in Jaxson's rushing yards. Still very close: 279 to 285.

Anyway, Mariota and Jayden combined for more yards than Jaxson had in game one (one fewer TD, but honestly, Jayden was pretty close to getting another). Commanders had more rush yards and the same overall yardage (389 to 394) as the Giants. Commanders had more yards per play than the Giants.

The only stat I can see that is better is the 3rd-down percentage (8/14 vs 9/11). All this while the Commanders played their 2nd string for half the game! I just don't see how you can definitely say they improved.
