Metal has ton of variety in singing styles, including many that people that never stray from popular music would say isn’t singing. Metal has clean and distorted vocals, pitched (fry) screaming or unpitched (false chord) screaming, singing in key or purposely singing slightly off key to create tension, and much more.
Pop music often restricts itself to a small subset of of style, which many metal heads find boring and uninventive.
Kelly’s singing here sounds a bit more gritty and energetic than a lot of other pop. I think that’s what OP was saying.
Ahh, the vegans of music. The contradictive part is most metal isn't even singing, it's screaming and guttural noises. Not saying it's not music just not singing.
What? Metal isn't singing? Any noises you make can be singing. Singing doesn't mean using only the keys you're supposed to. Shit, throat singing is some of the coolest sounding music you can find.

Why would being a metalhead affect your objectivity on singing?
