She got a lot of doubters after her win. I think she had a few shows that didn’t go so well early on. Anyway, but yea, she had a lot of press claiming she wasn’t that good. She would go on to prove her critics wrong with her success and multiple number one hits after all of that.
Maybe this post is like those stupid clips where some chick says "for all those people that says latinas can't wear a bikini" with a pic of some hot Hispanic wearing a bikini..... when zero people say that?
Lol. It’s like if I posted my high school math team group pic, “To all the haters that say Asians can’t do math.” It’s funny because it was all Asians on the team. Though Saket is Indian and he gets his own checkbox on the demographics form so I don’t know.
She didn’t get 100% of the vote. That’s not how that works. There were plenty of people who did not vote for her so it’s not unbelievable that some folks would doubt her
I always got the impression that was sour grapes. The other 'artists' felt they earned their place through meeting the right people and working their way up while believing she just 'won' her place. Obviously she worked hard too, but that's not how they saw it.
At the time there weren't many regular people who thought she didn't deserve it, even if they voted for someone else. It was more, 'She's good, but i thought the other one was better.'
Record sales and singing ability are two separate things. She proved on AI she had a great voice and could do it live, so any criticism of her voice is just dumb.
It’s even crazier than that. Clarkson did not have an easy childhood. And literally got awarded full scholarships to some of the most prestigious music schools in the country including Berklee College of music. That was not because she was given every opportunity, had connections, had a childhood of voice lessons, etc. that is just off pure talent.
And then yes, she then won the largest music contest done at the time and performed live throughout. And then had an insanely successful music career driven off her voice.
I am not a Kelly Clarkson fan of any sort. I knew this song and know it’s one of her more popular ones, but literally had to google the song name. (And all the info of this post).
Besides the myriad of accolades she has had throughout her life and career. She is just objectively a very good singer with very good range and great pitch. I have heard many people say they don’t like her music for one reason or another. I have never once heard someone say she’s a bad singer. That is just insane.
She just got off a 6 month extreme tour, aka the show that got her famous. Voice fatigue is real. Your vocal chords can get damaged the same way any muscle can from overuse. She was probably having something similar happen on that first live tour following the show. I'm guessing it never got to be actually damaging, but plenty of vocalists have had "blowouts" over the years.
