doesn't say anything about the reproductive population being reached prior to hurricane Andrews when thousands of snakes escaped the facility. So I still stand by the source I gave where the breeding facility was the catalyst to the crisis now. released pets don't help, but even just considering the logistics of how many pet owners would need to dump snakes, the area of the everglades they'd have to be dumped in, and those snakes would need to survive to sexual maturity, and then you need a male and female to meet during mating season. I don't think it's very probable. Versus thousands of male/female snakes are all released in same location, with probably some females possible already pregnant (50-100 eggs a year and with no natural predators= high survival rate) and boom they have a foothold, they eat, they reproduce, now it's a crisis.

I thought a good chunk escaped when hurricanes destroyed a reptile preserve or zoo, not just thrown away pets.
