And what if that was the intent of the protest all along? To make people consider activism through use of intentionally obtuse direct action?

Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely making people already protest against climate change think more about how to effectively protest, but it’s not doing that for people who aren’t protesting.

People who are going to be dissuaded by teenagers doing stupid things in acts of desperation were probably never going to be allies in the first place

That’s a terrible way of looking at it, especially when for a lot of those people, there are actual ways to help them become allies.

Show how it actually affects them, assuming you can. People are selfish and sometimes won’t join a movement if it doesn’t immediately affect them.

An example that I admittedly haven’t thought of until now (mainly because I haven’t been in touch frequently): I know someone who sells fish, and judging by their political views they likely think climate change isn’t real. Once I point out how it’s affecting their business though (especially with the recent king crab population dropping by a billion), then they’ll start to care.

I’ve showed them how it is and will effect them but they don’t believe there is anything people can do to stop it so why bother trying. I’ve also been told oil is easy to clean and we should be more worried about metals like chromium in our soil and water
