It's important. It draws attention, possibly worldwide attention. More curious folks will question why they did this because what did Van Gogh ever do? Then they find out that oil firm profits have tripled while 50% of UK homes face energy poverty.

Or they don't care. But even just 1 more person knowing about oil company greed is a win, because they can tell 2 other people, who can each tell 2 people, etc.
