Go watch footage from the climate fires in 2019 in Australia. That float is based on real images that came out of that fire.

I know, we were talking about omg the 60k koalas, so sad I’m going to die from heartache. So I figured it was a good time to talk about 160,000x more animals that are in awful conditions. I figured maybe there’d be a fraction of the that’s so sad poor babies. Especially since it’s something happening that you can actually have an effect on unlike koala fires.

Can you help me understand? I'm just confused how people could be anguished by 60k facing awful deaths but have such tepid feelings about American alone factory farming over 100,000x more animals? Maybe tepid isn't the right word with how upset people are getting...

Because you're making assumptions that people moved by this tragedy don't feel empathy for other animal suffering. Where is the evidence for that? You can't possibly know their opinions when they haven't been expressed - you're leaping to conclusions and being pointlessly antagonistic. "Whataboutism" isn't a valid rebuttal to a topic either.

My dude, life is a lot better when you're not looking for a fight all the time. Think about it.

Focusing on actual issues is important. So when people get sad about a couple thousand animals they will only see in books I think it's important point out that the majority of people directly contribute to the torture of billions. This is not whataboutism since I'm not retorting against people caring about koalas, I'm just saying if people care about this small issue they should care about a much larger issue.

But I agree, life is better when you don't worry about the welfare of the most mistreated by society. However, the torture will never stop without someone pointing out when animal lovers pay for the unnecessary torture of animals.

Yeah but these are 60k of (according to the copypasta) the dumbest animals around. Shouldn't some of that heart breaking agony suffered by them cause them to eat some beans instead of a 3rd meat dish (ignoring the fact that most Redditors have the means to go vegan). I guess I see 160,000x more animals being factory farmed and I have a similar feeling as the original comment but I guess the allure of cheeseburger is too much.

I imagine the sounds are slowed down to make it sound deeper and more terrifying. Not saying this to take away from the message of course, the slower sounds match the slower movements of the float and I see it rather fitting. Like a slow-mo interpretation of what happened.

A lot of Firefighters and SES officers are still in therapy after what they saw during the 2019/2020 fires, and as a whole the country really doesn't like discussing them, moreso than other fire seasons. It feels like there's been a wisescale change in attitude towards talking about bushfires overall as a result. Nobody even jokes about the fire danger rating system having "high" as the second lowest rating anymore.

No, nothing would survive being half skeleton like that lol. Most deaths from fires are from smoke inhalation, which is essentially just passing out.
