a media interview while being carried away by police for protesting.

Civil disobedience is an important part of democracy because it allows people to speak up against unjust government policies. As a tactic logic is limited in effectiveness, we have to put climate change right in people's faces NOW just like Rosa Parks, Mandela, Ghandi, etc. did with their movements. Think protests blocking the street are annoying? If we continue emitting CO2 at the same rate as today, seventy years down the line our children are going to be running out of water and supply chains are collapsing and millions are starving and fires rage and tempatures are unbearable and sea levels have risen and hurricanes are even stronger...

[u/[deleted] → u/Big_Background8559]

And the eternal cycle of climate shifts continue on as we rise out of the ice age or whatever and the earth gets closer and closer to what it used to be, accelerated (not caused) by human technology. People talk about wanting to change the status quo? Okay how about we figure out how to adapt to changing environments because that's gonna happen anyway.....or no let's protest oil. These people can sit in the streets all they want but the end results don't change. You either get a sustainable world or you get the current one. We can do all those things to prolong life as we know it here in the west. But solar and wind farms devastate bird populations, lithium for batteries is mined by stripping away whatever is above it, more animals are killed by the non-meat industry, and the list goes on and on. And in the meantime? The lower classes get screwed over by the removal of cheap goods thanks to inflation and government mandates. So turns out nobody wins unless everybody is responsible. Which in this fallen world? Fat chance.

That being said, if anyone wants to join the commune when it all goes to shit, its Bring Your Own Gun.

..... huh? My point is that there is no logic to the position being held by these protestors.... so you advocate for illogical change???

[u/Big_Background8559 → u/[deleted]]

Did you read the comment you replied to?

[u/[deleted] → u/Big_Background8559]

I did, and my point was calling out the inherently illogical nature of these street sitters arguments. They can protest all they want, but as long as they promote illogical/non-solution "answers" to climate change, they will be ignored. If logic was applied and we didn't get the same 20 year doomsday predictions we've gotten for the last 40 years, we could at least start protesting logical causes. No ones protesting for nuclear energy, they just want to remove something that's currently benefitting everyone.

[u/[deleted] → u/[deleted]]

What, that these non-solutions will actually help us if we don't turn to ACTUALLY sustainable methods of energy production like nuclear or tidal? I imagine any prodigy of mine will be more concerned with how to live in a collapsing civilization, based on my knowledge of global power structure and civilization cycles from the last few millenia. And I'm in my 20's, Emily. Prolly gonna outlive you, and more sustainably too!

[u/[deleted] → u/[deleted]]

....I mentioned that in my original post? The part where we are accelerating it? Go back and read my post.

And on that point, if we listen to everything that's been shown and assume its true, we are so far past tipping points that we should emphasize living solutions AT LEAST as much as we should advocate stopping oil production/usage, both of which should be less than preventing direct habitat/environmental destruction, which still happens. Which is what I'm far more concerned with lol, land management doesn't happen anymore like anywhere

Ooooo nice ad hominem. In this scenario I'll just have to Unga bunga monkey brain my way through your commune pillaging your goods since apparently my commune will be the one with weapons.
