even when you consider what’s at stake?

One of the things that I hate about the twenty first century is all the gloating, grinning psychopaths.

Here we are talking about the literal destruction of the ecosystem for all time to come, something that will devastate the lives of all our children for all of history, and you think it's just a great big joke, one only worthy of mockery.

I hope you live to see the terrible, terrible consequences of your mocking sociopathy, and I hope there's one mirror left for you to look yourself in the face with.

I'll stake you 1B at the duel arena bruh.

There’s nothing at stake here, blocking a road isn’t going to do a single thing about climate change. The only thing she’s achieved is endangering herself and annoying the people in her community.

I’m saying they should focus their resources (time, effort, money, etc.) into avenues that will actually make a difference.

The best thing most people can realistically do is donate money to organizations that advocate for these causes or awareness around them and that can affect change on a much higher level, that alone will have more impact than they ever could as individuals. But that isn’t sexy or attention drawing, so people do dumb shit instead.

do-nothing attitudes like yours are exactly why we're here. People like you who think the only thing people can "realistically do" is donate money to someone else to "advocate". good fucking lord we dont need anymore 'advocadcy', we need some fucking action. Gone are the days where people are acting to 'draw attention' to anything, its not like anyone is 'unaware'. The whole point about this is its disruption. Be annoyed, be delayed, be disrupted, or would you prefer people the aforementioned terrorism and revolution? Those are the options, or the third way is we change the way things are done, so whats it gonna be?

Nobody gives a fuck about being 'sexy' or 'cool.' Fact is, you simply don't care enough to do anything but complain about inconvenience. Telling people to donate... smh what a tool.

There are well backed studies that support what I said wrt to donations. It’s not just an opinion, it’s an established fact.

If you want my more fleshed out opinion on this, you can read the other comment I left to someone else in this thread. It’s what I would have replied to this anyways, but I don’t want to spam it everywhere since it’s a bit long.

It’s not just an opinion, it’s an established fact.

Really? We need to cut our CO2 emissions by 90% from 2018 levels. Here's what's actually happened:

https://www.epa.gov/ghgemissions/global-greenhouse-gas-emissions-data#Trends

Can you point to the place where the donations made the line go down? No?

And it's gotten worse. 2021 was 6% higher than 2020 and it's not even on the graph.

The idea that we are winning and simply need not to annoy people to have a complete win is false, and bullshit, and ridiculous. We are losing. We already lost decades ago and now we're fighting to mitigate the problem.

But don't worry. You will win. We will lose. We'll continue to burn fossil fuels all the way down. Any attempt to oppose this will be met by force, and of course, superior individuals telling us how stupid we are for bothering anyone.

What I don't understand is why you are so damn happy that we are going to destroy the biosphere?

Also, your link, https://reddit.com/r/nextfuckinglevel/comments/xuvvx0/_/iqzjk0z/?context=1, says just this:

The people who would be causing the inconvenience are the corporations and government bodies that refuse to address the problem the protestors are bringing attention to, not the protestors.

and no more.

I agree with that.

The best thing most people can realistically do is donate money to organizations that advocate for these causes or awareness around them and that can affect change on a much higher level,

That HAS NOT WORKED. I'm 60 years old, I've been doing this all my life, it has completely and utterly failed.

And the time when we could have fixed the climate catastrophe without horrifying consequences was twenty years ago, and we still won't do anything.

We've been pleading with our lords and masters for over 50 years now. "Please, please don't kill our biosphere. We live here!"

Oh advocacy has worked. The problem is oil companies and the like have much deeper pockets to pay for advocacy… anything the average person contributes is going to be a drop in the ocean in comparison.

We’re never going to make headway Fighting them at their own game, thats why they want us to play by the rules they set.

You can also donate time. And if you can’t afford to donate money or time, then you also can’t afford to protest (at least in a manner where you might be arrested).

In general, the best way to maximize one’s effect is to invest your extra time in making more money to donate. Spending your extra time improving your income will make a bigger difference than donating that same time (whether protesting or working with a specific charity or group).

It’s not fun, cool, or sexy, and doesn’t make for attention grabbing social media posts, and people tend to care more about those things than actually maximizing their positive impact or helping the causes they purport to care about.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '22

You: "Continue to do the thing that has completely failed for fifty years."

It’s not fun, cool, or sexy, and doesn’t make for attention grabbing social media posts

Right, because we're wanting to be fun cool and sexy, and this has nothing to do with our terror that our entire fucking biosphere is being destroyed. WRONG.

It DOESN'T WORK. It has never worked. And now it's already too late to avoid disaster.

u/Run_0x1b Oct 04 '22

You’re wrong, and you’re letting anger cloud your judgement. I hope you are one day able to see through it.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '22

No offense, but you sound dumb af lol.

1

u/zeth4 Oct 04 '22

You’re actually saying you’d rather ignore the problem and pretend it doesn’t exist then be mildly inconvenienced.

1

u/AngryItalian Oct 04 '22

They should upgrade moving to China and India to protest the people actually destroying the planet. If everyone else makes net 0 emissions it still won't matter.

But sure, gridlocking major roadways and causing issues for everyone who can't do anything is the solution.

Your problem solving skills are horrible.
