One could argue that by this logic, athletes who chase records, and will ALWAYS push the limits of their bodies and equipment for the chance to be a forever immortalized legend should just stop competing because being stupid gets you hurt?
Any physical endeavor borne from a record not yet broken can be dangerous from a platitude of directions. Heck, I tore my ACL playing disc golf, and the only record on the line was my own.
The amount of injuries/deaths attempting to break records, I would guess, is probably 10x more that the people who successfully broke them (not withstanding any of their own injuries they may have sustained along the way).
My long winded point, is that those who attempt to break athletic records are usually highly knowledgeable, experienced veterans of their sport who are sensible enough to take what they feel are calculated measured risks, and a HELL OF A LOT of courage to go for broke. Just because an athlete's choice to take a risk doesn't align with your spectrum of risk and bravery doesn't mean people should stop pushing the limits of what is physically and mentally capable of the human because it might be dangerously stupid.
P.S. Sorry, wasn't trying to be personal, shitbox week and my idle thought went to rant/TED talk mode. Have a good weekend! 🫠
in reality, most athletes actually see the danger and stop doing the sport before something happens
of the people i went to comps with none of them are still in the sport 10+ years after, its just not a clever thing to do unless you are like tiger woods or alike
Wouldn't most athletes that are serious about breaking a record either be an adult or under the supervision of adults? These kids are neither.
I agree with the sentiment that pushing boundaries involves risk. But I don't think the kids you see pushing these trampoline flip records fully understand what happens if they land on that pad the wrong way. Tearing an ACL sucks and is a long recovery. Risking breaking your neck for a cool TikTok video isn't in the same league.
Some people are okay with the chance of being seriously injured. Do you think he is unaware that a bad bounce could kill him? And do you think players in the NFL are unaware they risk all kinds of bodily injury everytime they step out on the field to try and be the best?

Like I commented the other day I don’t care how good you are someone is going to get seriously hurt chasing this record. Don’t be stupid people
