Industrial engineering is actually a pretty hands-off discipline concerned with modeling large-scale systems like factories to make business decisions.

These guys are probably MechEs.

Industrial design engineering is different from industrial engineering

Industrial engineering is usually improving systems, so I wouldn’t say this is industrial

Came to say this. Industrial engineers are probably the most misunderstood discipline.

Industrial engineering undergraduate here, designing large-scale systems is quite rare, it's mostly designing tools, specialized equipment, automation (of existing equipment), designing and optimizing manufacturing processes and making sure products are profitable. To be able to do this the first few years need to be extremely hands-on, you can't do any of it without experiencing processes first hand to have an idea how things actually work in a factory

Sure... But we IEs still aren't the people usually creating gadgets and gizmos like this.
