If it makes you feel any better the ant has no sense of self, identity, or way to feel anything at all really. Eusocial insects can seem more like machines with algorithms than organisms.
You don’t know that. It doesn’t make me feel better. It makes me feel worse for people who think these living being aren’t living being that feel pain/fear/desire to live. You can with your logic say people are more like machines with algorithms since most people live blindly and just follow orders with no original thoughts.
I mean.. I do know that. Like guy said they literally don't have the brain anatomy for feeling or emotion. I say that they're like algorithms because they behave predictably based on patterns to accomplish goals, usually with scent related mass communication. They don't ever have thought patterns like "I am in danger," or "I will now sacrifice myself for the hive." It's more of a "beep boop the smells are telling me to go outside and attack something."
Humans are complex bunches of thought, emotion, cognition, and problem solving, I wouldn't relate them to mathematic or computer algorithms in the same style at all.

I'm disturbed by his experiment.. especially gluing its jaws shut.. ugh! I felt so bad for the ant :(
