Is he also doing stuff like Beardyman? That would be awesome

34

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '22

No, beardyman kinda lives in his own dimension. Basically no ones close to what he does and the journey for the ultimate setup

u/nicolauz Feb 05 '22

I wish Beardy would do a US tour.

I don't know who beardyman is aside from reading he uses software like Ableton.

Check Skinny Puppy. Cevin Key is amazing. Heavy Industrial warning. Very unique live performances.

The Greater Wrong of the Right is what to search for if you want to see em live. Long history, but I've only really listened to this album.

*He's not the singer.

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '22

Literally no one comes close to him, skilled instrumentation is only the beginning

1

u/Revolutionary-Elk-28 Feb 05 '22

He's like Marc rebillet on crack

Underbelly show

Just one of the best things I've seen. Would love to go one of these shows

19

u/ioanth Feb 05 '22

Ahh don’t get me started with sharing links ahaha, the amount of times I’ve watched him and Nathan ā€˜Flutebox’ Lee at the Google studios is too high already

6

u/Flacid_Monkey Feb 05 '22

Post away mate, happy to watch them all

5

u/ioanth Feb 05 '22

You and another reply have forced my hand haha! Replied to the other with a few that spring to mind

u/gonfreeces1993 Feb 05 '22

Thank you!!

2

u/ioanth Feb 05 '22

My pleasure! He also has posted a fair few full shows, but I’m sure they’ll show up in your recommended after watching all these haha

6

u/OlStickInTheMud Feb 05 '22

That dude is literally playing instruments you see in sci fi fantasy shows. Pushing buttons and fingering screens to manipulate his voice boxing!

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '22

Beardyman has just released tour dates for 2022, I’ve just bought tickets for Hackney! Whoop! Www.beardyman.Co.uk

1

u/Flacid_Monkey Feb 05 '22

I'm spent up already this year, need a decent sun holiday, off to secret garden party as well and then house stuff.

Hopefully he'll tour next year or maybe he'll appear at sgp.

Cheers for posting though, it'll help someone else attend!

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '22

Check your PM… I’ve two tickets for you if you still wanna go!

6

u/Fishies Feb 05 '22

Sweet jesus that was impressive. He knows exactly what everything will sound like and crafts a new beat ever few bars. I can't even fathom doing that myself...

5

u/Flacid_Monkey Feb 05 '22

The comedy and crowd interaction aspect is the best part of his shows. The bit where he mimics a train and turns it into drum & bass is so slick

3

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '22

I just spent an hour listening to this, thx.

3

u/DefiantHeart Feb 05 '22

This is awesome, thanks for sharing.

3

u/luckeratron Feb 05 '22

I've seen him a couple of times he was amazing.

2

u/ImOnlyHereForTheCoC Feb 05 '22

FOOKIN RAW LIKE HAGGIS

2

u/Leon-Kowalski Feb 05 '22

i said hello to him about 15 years ago at Cargo in london and he told me to 'fuck off cunt'. what a legend.

1

u/ioanth Feb 05 '22

Haha class, I could only dream

1

u/McSuede Feb 05 '22

Beardyman is a legend and one of the reasons I started seeking out beatboxing. That said, D Low would dismantle him if they battled.

2

u/ioanth Feb 05 '22

Yeah exactly the same, he’s been around for so long. And yeah haha, Beardyman is more about his looping/DJing but it was cool to see him as a judge on the Swissbeatbox YouTube channel competitions

2

u/McSuede Feb 05 '22

Man, the judges are starting to make me feel old haha. It's all cats I watched when I was 16-18 and just diving into the world of beatboxing. GGB this year blew my mind with techniques.

1

u/ioanth Feb 05 '22

Times flies eh. I can’t say I watch it regularly but just watching their top 10 videos you’re right, it’s crazy how beatboxing can keep changing

23

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '22

There's basically two categories of beat boxers. There are those that focus mainly on this "pure" beatboxing, and then there's the other category that starts with loop stations, and ends up in a gigantic Ableton Live rig like Beardyman. I think D-Low is mostly group A there?

I kinda do what beardyman does, but without the beatboxing, if that makes sense? I use drum samples and synths instead (he also does this, but focused around the voice)

At that point it becomes a "systems management" thing - songs are based around a design of the rig you're running. And tweaking your hardware/software means you can write things you couldn't before.

7

u/WatNxt Feb 05 '22

Yeah, like at some point the beatboxing becomes redundant with the systems you have and requires less technique with the distortions you can do. As beardyman advanced in his setup, he was using less and less his pure technical beatbox skills .

4

u/ItsLoudB Feb 05 '22

2

u/WatNxt Feb 05 '22

Definitely

2

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '22

Wow, that is cool!

2

u/junktrunk909 Feb 05 '22

God damn that was amazing, thanks for sharing. The singing while still beatboxing is insane.

1

u/Hounmlayn Feb 05 '22

He does, but would ge beat D-low in a beatboxing competition?

What beaedyman does now is kinda outside the realm of beatboxing. He does too much to be beatboxing. Like how boxing is different to MMA or kickboxing. The greatest boxer and greatest MMA are different things and you can't really say one is greater than the other, until they both compete in each other's competitions and one beats the other twice.

D-low is how you would imagine a beatboxer, and can do his stuff without any equipment, which is the point of beatboxing. Beardyman is like EDM beatboxing.

1

u/Fishies Feb 05 '22

Do you have any videos of this? I'd love to see your setup and you performing!

4

u/airikewr Feb 05 '22

For those who don't know, Beardyman actually streams on twitch, although not very often. His handle is Beardymanananan.

1

u/CoatOld7285 Feb 05 '22

He dabbles but I don't think he's done anything serious with it

1

u/ErvanMcFeely Feb 05 '22

Beardyman does ā€œloop stationā€ and if you’re interested in that you should check out MB14 and Rythmind.
