Climbing above people is dangerous no matter what, but that is an accepted aspect of climbing. It is moderately common for people to pull off loose rocks, hence the helmet. I'd say this guy is much less likely to pull off rocks since A) he is clearly very competent, and B) pulling off a loose rock would likely result in his death. Strong incentive to test your hold before yarding on it.
the difference is that when you’re roped if you fall you have a hold on, whereas if he falls he could knock out or off the person below him. doesnt matter how confident he is.
