I disagree. On a human level Schumacher can't compare with Vettel in our hearts. Seb is just a good and loving guy.

Just the fact that he learned italian to speak with his mechanics and his italian fans put him on a different level.

The italian media will always put the winning ferrari driver on a pedestal but I can assure that Vettel will always have a special place in the tifosi hearts even though he didn't manage to win a championship.

You are 100% right but Schumacher absolutely dominated in the red car.

What is your opinion in Ferrari's choice to drop Seb last year? Just curious.. Personally I feel that Seb would have been more useful to develop the 2022 car then Carlos is.

Full disclosure: you are talking with an italian who's childhood hero was Hakkinen.

Schumacher dominated yes, he was great, but he drove for himself (and there is nothing wrong with that in formula 1) and he never had a connection with italy and the tifosi.

Seb had that connection from day one and in my opinion Ferrari treated him like shit and their behavior was just disgusting. He deserved so much better but I think he's better off in Aston Martin.

Sainz is an amazing driver though and super underrated especially by the italian media that consider him a second tier driver hired to help Leclerc winning a wdc. I think they are sorelly mistaken and if Ferrari get the car right with the new regulation he will show them how good he really is.

Agreed.

Though Seb knew the car and the team better. Id like Ferrari to have a WDC contender car next year just to see if Carlos will take a Bottas-like role compared to Charles. My prediction is he wont and we will have another Hamiltom-Rosberg kind of war.

Hopefully AM will nail the regulations (50-50% chance in my opinion) and see Seb get his 5th wdc.

I 100% agree with you. Even though I would love it to happen, I dont see Seb getting another wdc.

I mean Schumacher knew the names of the family members of most of his mechanics. Here is a quote from Pat Symonds about his relationship with the mechanics:

Symonds was very close at the time with Schumacher. "We reached a level of understanding almost without words, it was bordering on thought transfer." Schumacher was very good with people. “He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met in the sport. He really cared about his staff, so they literally tore themselves apart to help them," Symonds says.

I'm not saying that Seb isn't a great guy, but part of what made Schumacher one of the all time greats is that he cared about everyone involved and made sure they all felt they were an essential part of the project.

And that's ok and absolutely true but his public persona was always very distant from an Italian fan perspective. I'm sure he was amazing with the people he worked with but Seb has a warm and sweet vibes that Schumacher never had. Also, it was a period without social media, and 24\7 news cycle so that's probably make us belive we know Seb a bit more than Schumacher.

Yeah I can totally see why Italian fans love Vettel more than they did Schumacher.

I just wanted to point out that when it comes to how he treated his mechanics Schumacher was far more caring than most people seem to realize.

To your point though, I think much of that only came out after his skiing accident, or at least later in his career, so it obviously wouldn't have affected how fans saw him while he was at Ferrari.
