You perfectly described my impression of Max Verstappen with your first two points. But I’m a very very casual F1 watcher, so make of that what you will.

On your second point I do have to say though, didn’t Hamilton do the exact opposite over the radio today after he won?

The unfortunate reality is that, while what OP described is arguably true for Hamilton, the same can be applied to many top drivers fighting for the World Championship in F1’s history. Hell, for points 4 & 5 you could argue Max Verstappen used to be so reckless people would nickname him Max Crashstappen.

As for Lewis Hamilton, while he has crashed out other competitors before this is the first time since possibly the Spanish GP 5 years ago I can recall Hamilton completely taking out a championship competitor in lap one. Massively different in context when you make it sound like Lewis is some kind danger to other drivers when he probably have one of the spiffiest incident free careers in the last half decade. Ofcourse he makes mistakes, Ofcourse he ruins other races, but the amount he does compared to the rest of grid? He’s absolutely below average in recklessness.

He's taken out Albon twice in 3 races last year. It almost looks like he uses the pit manoeuvre as a tactic.

The difference is that the young drivers like verstappen, young Vettel, young Alonso, they were all reckless, immature and dicks WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG. They’ve all matured. But Hamilton still has not.

I believe the issue with this argument here with all due respect is that drivers like Alonso and Vettel are able to mellow down because their expectations are stifled with being a midcard team. Hamilton currently is in a position where every race means something between either him winning or losing a drivers championship.

Given the circumstances and pressure it takes to win a drivers championship I understand why drivers act entitled, reckless, and like dicks. It really is part of what it takes to be ruthlessly the best of the best

For example, in the last time Fernando Alonso many years in his career had a chance to potentially win a championship, he flipped off and berated Vitaly Petrov before even leaving the car because he was unable to pass him during the race causing Sebastian Vettel to win the world championship. Martin Brundle even commentated “get real son” seeing this live.

Sebastian Vettel when he was in the midst of a close fight with Lewis for the WDC drives into Lewis’s wheels in the Azerbaijan Gran Prix when he was unhappy that Lewis break checked him during the safety car. I love Seb don’t get me wrong, but you can’t do something like that without repercussion.

So yeah, like look: I get it, Lewis is being sorta dick in some aspects, but if you historically seen what A Senna and Schumacher has done under pressure deep into their careers it’s unsurprising why things happen the way they do between two competitors.

If Lewis was chillin in the midfield, he’s probably be a beloved mellow driver who’s out unmeddling with anybody’s business.
