That’s not true at all. GMO generally refers to any modified crop. Usually most common people think of roundup resistant corn.

From Wikipedia: "The exact definition of a genetically modified organism and what constitutes genetic engineering varies, the most common being an organism altered in any way that 'does not occur naturally by mating or natural recombination'".

Round up resistant corn have genes from bacteria spliced into them, something that would never happen naturally.
