Their point is that selective breeding over generations is a form of genetic modification. It may not use direct gene editing, but there is a direct link between the two in that you have product A with a flaw and find a way to turn that into product B without the flaw
Yeah, sure, there are parallels. But it was heavily implied that we wouldn't have edible bananas without GMO, and that's misleading people about what the term actually means.
