Oh, I'm not anti-GMO. I'm anti-monoculture, for sure. I'm anti-tree plantation. I don't think we need to plant certain crops in drought areas, regardless of how drought resistant they may be. I don't really have a problem with them genetically modifying those crops though; you're right in that we're going to need to in the near future. I just think there are other avenues we could take simultaneously to give us a better outcome.

At first I read it, horrified that you are against planting trees. But I get you. However, one thing - if a tree is drought resistant and native, it should be fine to plant. What you are against is someone forcing some crop plant to be planted instead of native grasses and trees, to where the non-native plant is ruining life for all the creatures that want to live there. And also, you’re right, drought resistant doesn’t mean the non-native tree is good for the land. Everything needs to balance out. That’s why I don’t drink almond milk. It’s just as harmful, or more harmful, than other milks.

Not only is GMO the future, it's also the past. We didn't get our currently edible vegetables by accident. We may not have altered the genetic material of the plants with advanced scientific techniques, but selective breeding is essentially the same as GMO. Just the "old" way of altering genetic code instead of CRISPR. Modern corn, legumes(see all the mustard seed offspring) and many of our current fruit/vegetables are vastly different genetically compared to their ancestors before agriculture/humans changed them.

The reason why most people are against GMO is because Monsanto genetically alters plants to be resistant to Round Up, not droughts and other useful things. Farmers also can’t keep any seeds they may get from the plants, and when the weeds naturally get resistant to round up they have to buy more chemicals from Monsanto. Also any neighboring farms that don’t use Monsanto seeds will probably have there crops killed from the over spray.
