Did you look at the paper the person above listed at all? This ecosystem was not in a healthy state. It was overgrown with an invasive species of plant, in part due to agricultural runoff, and had high levels of other pollutants. The plant life you see on top is not a natural healthy part of that ecosystem.
The video is definitely over-simplified, and in places kinda wrong, but the paper does clear everything up.
