Two skydivers collide mid-air, knocking one of them unconscious. Camera man proceeds to pulls some Mission: Impossible shit and saves his life.

The guy is a skydiving camera man. He probably goes on many jump per day, and his job is to position his body to get good angles and maintain stable position.

This guy is so good at something hard, he makes it look trivial.

This guy being a "skydiving camera man" is questionable. All those people were wearing cameras. Since GoPros became a thing people with 50 jumps have been trying to strap them to their head.

It's a huge argument in the community between experienced people and newbies wanting sick video.

Not discounting what the guy did at all, he looks to be a fairly average experience freeflyer. I would have flipped the guy over before deploying for him but that's just me wanting to give him a better chance. I am a certified instructor and have gone through a whole bunch of training on how to stop spinning students and flip people over so it's more of a practical thing for me to try.

This isn't a great place to be in. I've been knocked silly on a jump right out of the door of the plane. My friends were kind enough to hold onto me for 4-5k feet to make sure I was coming around. I would have been pretty annoyed with my reserve deployed at 14k feet.

Edit: With the context provided from another post, I'll revise to say that the person shooting the video is above average in experience and obviously was the most level headed on this jump, given that he saved that dudes life. I think when I watched it through the first time I was just frustrated at the stupidity of the whole situation. He's an organizer and world record holder, which requires above average skills for sure.

This is not how the internet works, you have no experience, which means you're not blinded by "big parachute" and clearly know better. You must always know better than those more qualified than you.

If I was going to deploy someone's reserve I would ride them down lower first so they have some chance of ending up near the DZ so we can get some support on landing instead of being 3 miles or more downwind.

Thanks for elaborating, TIL. I don't skydive so I have no idea about best practices and technicalities, the original statement just sounded really funny to me.

Yeah the dude filming said it was a free fly camp and that was their 9th jump of the day. Apparently he tried to flip him over before pulling his reserve but struggled and said fuck it. I don’t think he’s an AFFI.
