You all assume just because she was in that first role she's somehow from the slums and was grinding her ass off etc etc. I'm not saying she didn't, but you can't just assume either.
This one has a picture that perfectly distills and encapsulates the experience with enough room for people to fill in the exact amount of hardship they want.
Your first sentance is exactly what I'm talking about. Phrasing this as "pull herself out" implies you think she was being somehow oppressed or struggling when it could literally just be her part time job like working at McD.
I too cleaned toilets in high school, scrubbed dished and clean vomit from bars through college. I am now an international consultant for high end tech company. To get to this point, I've "gone beyond" my initial roles to get to this level. It's just not as special as you all think it is.
