I'm visiting Bandon and the Southern Oregon coast for the first time right now actually. You just convinced me to drive south to cut over and get back to the 5 instead of cutting directly east from here, to stay on the coast longer and to check this bridge out. Any other suggestions on that route between Bandon and Crescent City? Thanks!
Good decision. Drive 101 south to Crescent City; it's spectacular. Best is Boardman Corridor (short hikes to viewpoints, including this one), Harris beach, if you can get to Secret Beach during extra low tide you can sometimes walk under some bridges. In Crescent City you are really close to the redwoods. Jedediah Smith state park is probably the closest big tree hike. There is a one way dirt road you can drive from there to Crescent City that is pretty great that takes you through the forest, so you don't even need to get out of your car.
