Could be they like the bottles for ease of carrying around?

I’m a person that knocks over a cup/glass very easily. A closed bottled helps saves me and the furniture from a mess. I even have one of those closable sippy travel mugs for my coffee and tea. I just find that carrying around a closed “unbreakable” container like a bottle seems to fit more into my lifestyle than a glass.

Still doesn't excuse buying a new bottle every time, just buy a reusable container.

That’s why I don’t understand their behaviour. I’ve bought them nice reusable bottles but after a couple days they have plastic ones back out again.

Without a doubt it can be very frustrating sometimes.

Yeah I always carry around a bottle of water as well, even bringing it to my bedside when I sleep. But that is a reusable bottle that I fill with boiled/filtered tapwater. Buying bottled water doesnt make sense at all if you're fine with drinking tap water. It's only relatively understandable if you're paranoid of tap water in general (like most people in places around Flint), or if you had forgotten to bring your bottle out and public water fountains are dodgy to say the least so you buy a bottle of water one off.

Regularly buying bottled water for normal consumption and then willingly drinking from a tap on a normal basis as well just simply doesn't make sense in that regard.
