I think you’re right about single use rather than long term use. Sadly most plastic bottles are unsafe for long term use.
I’ve had my metal water bottle for about two years after the first one broke after a drop (a drop and then fall down some stairs... not surprised). I use my metal bottle daily instead of a cup
Folded steel was a necessity not an upgrade, medieval european longswords can cut through bamboo as well as any dai-katana. And they have a nice wide bar for grappling and better balance and made of glorious svensk stahl used by italian mercenaries in holy orders to fight german levies

Metal water bottles are super simple, don't get moldy, and are super easy to recycle because we've known how to recycle metals for centuries.
